BAMBOO DANCING METHOD IN SPEAKING People were born with language acquisition device. People use the device to communicate. But, to be capable of communicating by the device, people should practice it by lots of speaking skills. Speaking is the activity of uttering words in good pronunciation and full of meaning. It is also the process of transferring information to the listeners. As the process of transferring information, speaking needs various skills. Speaking in Indonesia language is quite difference in speaking English. Those languages are difference in vocabulary, structure (grammar), pronunciation, and even the style. These differences of course caused many of foreign language learners find difficult in speaking English. Besides, most students are not confident starting speaking English; of course it caused by their lack in pronunciation and awareness on grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, intonation, and the word stress. So, to overcome those students’ problems, teacher can use Bamboo Dancing Method because it can improve students’ cognitive so that students can be active in learning speaking in the classroom. Istarani (2014:200) argued that Bamboo Dancing Method is similar with inside outsides circle method. The teaching is started by introducing topic done by the teacher where the teacher can write the topic on the blackboard or teacher can make question-answer session related to what the students have known about the topic. Besides, Maufur (2009:110) argued that Bamboo Dancing Method is a worth method so that students mutual sharing information in a same time with 1

difference partner in a short time and regularly. It is suitable for material which needed exchange experiences and information between students. Suprijono (2009:98) defined that Bamboo Dancing Method is a teachinglearning method that divides students into two big groups. In addition, Asmani (2016:132) argued also that Bamboo Dancing Method is a method where the learning is preceded by introducing topic done by the teacher. She/he could write the topic on the blackboard or doing questionsanswers dealing with whatever known by the students related to be learnt. Based on all quotations above, it is concluded that Bamboo Dancing Method is a cooperative method of teaching that sharpen students’ cognitive by staffing topic firstly.

A. The Merits of Bamboo Dancing Method Bamboo Dancing Method has some merits and below is some of the merits: a. By Bamboo Dancing Method, students can change experience with his/her friends in the learning process (by Istarani, 2014:202); b. By Bamboo Dancing Method, students can improve their cooperation among students (by Istarani, 2014:202); c. By Bamboo Dancing Method, students’ tolerances can be improved (by Istarani, 2014:202); d. By Bamboo Dancing Method, students will more speak to certain topic (by Suprijono, 2009:98);

e. By Bamboo Dancing Method, students get opportunity to share information (by Suprijono, 2009:98); f. By Bamboo Dancing Method, students are allowed to brainstorming functions to activate their cognitive structure so that they are more readily to follow new topic (by Suprijono, 2009:98); g. By Bamboo Dancing Method, students are interactive in discussion (by Asmani, 2016:133); and h. By Bamboo Dancing Method, students cognitive can be more active (by Asmani, 2016:132).

B. The Demerits of Bamboo Dancing Method Except the merits, Bamboo Dancing Method has also demerits and below is some of the demerits: a. With Bamboo Dancing Method, hard for teacher to manage groups’ activities because the group learning is too big (by Istarani, 2014:202); b. With Bamboo Dancing Method, the learning interaction does not run well (by Istarani, 2014:202); c. With Bamboo Dancing Method, there will be several students are active because the group learning is too big (by Istarani, 2014:202); d. With Bamboo Dancing Method, some students more speak to certain topic but several students will panic (by Suprijono, 2009:98); and e. With Bamboo Dancing Method, several students will feel tired while standing to share information to his/her partner (by Suprijono, 2009:98).

C. The Syntax of Teaching-Learning of Bamboo Dancing Method In teaching students speaking by Bamboo Dancing Method, teacher should know the syntax. The following syntax is composed by Asmani (2016:132-133): a. Introducing topic by teacher Teacher writes the topic of the material that will be learnt by students which can be done by creating questions-answers session also related to everything students know about the topic. b. Dividing class into two big learning groups Teacher arranges students standing up in lines deal with other group’s members so that student has each partner in from of him/her. c. Distributing task Teacher distributes task to each partners and asks each partners to discuss it while teacher should give enough time for students to discuss their tasks. d. Moving a side Teacher instructs every student to move a side following clockwise so she/he gets new partner to mutual sharing information and this is stopped after every student turns back to their first partner. e. Presenting discussion results Teacher instructs every group to present the result of the discussion in the classroom. f. Doing interactive discussion Teacher does interactive discussion to help students deeply understand the discussed topic.
