PURPOSE The design associate will work on all phases of the design and construction process for communitybased architectural and design projects focused primarily in the Rio Grande Valley. This position will serve in both leadership and support roles. Scope of project work to include residential, small scale commercial, educational, installation, furniture and everything in between and beyond. This position will be under the supervision of [bc]’s Associate Director, Jesse Miller, and Design Director, Omar Hakeem. There will be performance reviews at 6 months and 1 year. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES The design associate will be responsible for the following as part of their day-to-day: • Support the design, engagement, and implementation of all architectural projects in the Rio Grande Valley, with travel to project sites required. • Support the organization on other geographic specific projects related to design. • Support the organization by assisting on projects and capacity building in other geographies. • Build community relationships to grow making work in the Rio Grande Valley and in other geographies. QUALIFICATIONS
• A commitment to people and place with a strong interest in public interest design • Master’s or Undergraduate degree in architecture, landscape architecture, or related field
• 1-5 years’ experience in architecture in all aspects of management, design, documentation, and • • • • • • • • • •
construction Strong visual communication skills and graphic talent Strong verbal and written communication skills Strong research skills Comfort with public speaking Experience in project management Experience with direct civic engagement, including but not limited to: organizing a design charrette or workshop, hosting a community forum. An undying passion for public design, and hearty work ethic Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite, GIS, AutoCAD, and Revit Verbal Spanish proficiency required, written proficiency preferred Eligible and authorized to work in the USA

MAIN PURPOSE AND FUNCTION The Brownsville office is working in partnership with community organizations to improve the quality of life in the colonias and cities of Cameron, Hidalgo, Willacy, and Starr Counties. We consider this to be some of the most meaningful and impactful work we engage in at [bc]. The associate will support work in the Rio Grande Valley, TX to: • Support the planning, engagement, and implementation of a large regional planning and policy initiative focused on community identified topics, of Equity in: Drainage, Transportation, Housing, and Public Space. • Support the office on other geographic specific projects related to planning and design. • Support the organization by assisting on projects and capacity building in other geographies. This position will be under the supervision of [bc]’s Brownsville Associate Director, Jesse Miller and Managing Director, Thor Erickson. There will be performance reviews at 6 months and 1 year.
