TUSLAW LOCAL SCHOOLS Board of Education Meeting January 13, 2014 The Tuslaw Local Board of Education met for their regular monthly meeting and conducted the following business: •
Barbara Markland, treasurer, administered the oath of office to recently elected board members Vicki Horvath, Larry Koons, and Jim Shaffer
•
Elected Vicki Horvath president and Jeannette Harig vice president for calendar year 2014
•
Agreed to continue holding regular board meetings on the second Monday of the month in the high school library at 6:00 PM
•
Listened to a grandparent who commended the board and district personnel for implementing an educational program for visually impaired students
•
Approved the financial report and the payment of bills which totaled $1,178,311 for the month of December
•
Accepted donations from Tuslaw retired employees (coats for kids), the middle school PTO ($600 for field trip), and Martha Camp (Nate Hollinger Scholarship Fund)
•
Approved the tax budget for 2014-15 as submitted by the treasurer
•
Adopted a number of standing authorizations to enable the treasurer and superintendent to conduct business for the board
•
Established a service fund of $5,000 for the board to pay for professional development
•
Appointed Randy Bleigh the legislative liaison and Jeannette Harig the student achievement liaison to OSBA
•
Renewed membership in the Ohio School Boards Association for Tuslaw Schools
•
Approved an adjustment to the 2014-15 school calendar moving the last day for students from May 29 to May 28 and the last day for teachers from June 1 to May 29
• Appointed Renee Magnacca as the designee to attend public records training representing newly elected board members •
Renewed membership in the Education Tax Policy Institute, which represents school districts relative to school funding
•
Approved three personal service contracts for extracurricular activities
•
Presented Ohio School Boards Association certificates of appreciation to board members for their service to Tuslaw Schools
•
Listened to a Race to the Top update presented by Carol Roger and Ryan Rodocker
•
Received information regarding a collaborative project with the North Lawrence VFD and about an energy savings project
•
Adjourned until the next regular meeting which will be held on Monday, February 10, 2014, at 6:00 p. m. in the high school library
