Behavior & Consequences Letter Mr. Rojas, #122
8-18-15
Dear Parent or Guardian, My goal, as your child’s teacher, is to create an environment that is stimulating, productive, and safe for all students. This includes assisting children in making appropriate behavioral choices. In our class, we will keep order and make sure appropriate behavior is followed in the two ways listed below. First, the class will be modeled in how to encourage each other to follow rules, directions, and procedures in healthy and quiet ways. This allows corrections to negative behaviors to be done in a kind way by peers. It allows me to not have to be involved in correcting every negative behavior that happens in class each day and it keeps the child accountable by someone other than the teacher. Students who work well together and encourage one another in positive and healthy ways will earn privileges. The desired classroom rules have been posted for all to see and are shared school-wide. Each child will also be able to keep track of his/her personal behavior by use of an online behavior system called “Class Dojo” (more info to come). If one warning is given, the child receives a “Caution!”. If two warnings are given, a “Consequence!” is received and the student faces the consequence of having to miss half of his/her morning recess. If three warnings are given, the child must fill out a sheet called the “Think Sheet” (explaining what they did and could have done differently), you will be notified of the inappropriate behavior, and the student will lose all of recess. If inappropriate behavior continues, the student will be sent to the school office (either to the detention room, vice-principal or principal) with heavier consequences now given by the school administration. Each child begins a new day with a clear slate. At the end of each day (or throughout the day), the teacher will record praises or warnings in ClassDojo (online) . Every Friday, if you have given me your email, you will get a report email from Class Dojo informing you about your child’s week. Any growing concerns will be addressed to you by email or by phone. Your assistance with behavioral expectations is critical for maintaining a positive learning environment for your child. My goal is to encourage, praise, and reward good behaviors in hopes of diffusing negative behaviors. Thank you for your support!
Sincerely, Mr. Rojas Please read and discuss the classroom rules and consequences of room #122 with your child. Then sign the bottom portion of the “Beginning of School Year Parent Packet Sheet”, and return it to Mr. Rojas.
