Blended Learning Transition Transition from traditional textbooks to digital ecosystem CCPS initiated a blending learning initiative in 2011 that set instructional goals to complement the future acquisition of chromebooks to establish a 1:1 technology rich classroom environment. To support the goals for the blended learning initiative included in the Design for Excellence 2020, the department of Curriculum and Instruction began to plan and communicate a gradual transition from traditional textbook materials to digital content and innovative materials.

Blended Learning Transition Listening tour to elicit feedback from school leaders/teachers Key leaders in the Chief Academic Office began a communication plan to share transition developments with principals and faculty groups to collect feedback and make adjustments to the five year plan for digital content and textbooks. Significant feedback from a specific group of teachers influenced the decision making process for the transition from traditional textbooks to digital content.

Blended Learning Transition Outside agencies impacting our decision making Several outside agencies have direct influence on some of our instructional programs. This feedback influenced the decision to continue to support the usage of traditional textbooks in these program areas. ○ ○ ○ ○
College Board International Baccalaureate Virtual Virginia Dual Enrollment classes in collaboration with the local community college 5
Blended Learning Transition Outside agencies impacting our decision making Instructional Specialists worked with teachers and department chairs to prioritize the needs of each content area. The following traditional textbook needs were established: ○ AP US History were purchased in 2015-16 school year ○ AP US Government and AP World History are prioritized for 2016-17 school year ○ AP European History and AP Psychology are prioritized for 2017-18 school year. 6
Blended Learning Transition Staff curated digital content/student resources Teams of teachers began to build digital textbooks for the secondary students in the core content areas of math, science, and history in the summer of 2015 and began usage in the 2015-16 academic school year. Revisions and improvements are continual and will strategically shift based on teacher feedback and student success. CCPS Digital Resource Table of Contents/Links 7
Blended Learning Transition OER work group textbook project Teams of teachers from around Virginia (Chesterfield, Virginia Beach, Loudon, Hampton, Norfolk, and Henry) will collaborate in the spring of 2017 to produce digital student resources for the following courses: ○ Virginia Studies ○ World History I ○ Algebra I. 8
