Coupeville School District Procedure No. 1000-P Legal Status and Operation
Student Board Member Selection. Each year, a high school junior is selected to serve as student advisor to the board, beginning with the December board meeting, in accordance with the following procedure. In September, the high school principal or designee and the outgoing student board member will publicize the opportunity for high school juniors to apply to serve as a student board member. Policy 1000, and its accompanying procedure and form, will serve to provide application information, and will be available through the student services office of the high school by September 15 each year. The application requirements must be met by October 15. The high school Associated Student Body Executive Board will screen applications. Only applicants who meet the following qualifications will be considered: • Application includes a letter of interest and a résumé; • Student has a GPA of at least 2.0 during the previous year; • Student is willing and able to commit to attending all board meetings; • Application includes two letters of reference. If the Executive Board determines that additional criteria are critical to the process of screening, those criteria will be applied to all applicants, and the board of directors will be informed of the criteria being used. Up to five students may be recommended by the A.S.B. to the board of directors for interview. The board will conduct interviews and make its selection of the student board member at the November regular board meeting. The student board member begins his or her year of service at the December regular board meeting. Student board members are expected to become familiar with board policy governing meetings. Complete applications must be submitted to the A.S.B. advisor by 4:30 PM. If October 15 falls on a nonschool day, applications must be submitted by 4:30 PM the following Monday.

A.S.B. Executive Board recommends up to five students for the position.
November
At the regular November board meeting, the board interviews the student(s) recommended by the A.S.B. The board selects one student board member.
December
Student board member begins term of service at regular meeting.
