Stay Safe Online by Mr. Peter Sloan
parents alike. The digital world changes so rapidly and, while it offers many positive opportunities and benefits, there are also dangers for the unwary, especially children.
This week we have been delighted to welcome Jonathan Taylor to BPS, indeed to the whole of TES. Mr. Taylor is an internationally recognized expert in the field of online safety. He served for many years in the Metropolitan Police Child Protection Unit in London and, for the last ten years, has worked as an academic and a consultant in the area of online safety. In his capacity as consultant, Mr. Taylor works with schools in the UK and also with many international schools overseas. During the three days spent at TES, Mr. Taylor has worked with pupils from across each section and at both campuses. He has spoken with staff at training meetings and held two parent sessions. The area of online safety is very much a topic of concern for schools and
Mr. Taylor spoke to all his audiences, regardless of their age, about ways in which they should be behaving in order to keep themselves, and their growing online record, safe. He also gave a very clear message for those of us as parents that we should actively engage in our children’s online activities. We should talk with them about what they are doing, show interest in their online adventures and talk to them about their safety. This visit is a part of the TES commitment to our children’s safety and our desire to give our parent community the opportunity to hear what is happening online.

Safety First by Mr. Peter Sloan
Last week saw our first campus wide Fire Drill at EPC. Children and staff from the three sections evacuated the building in a smooth and orderly manner ner and everyone was out in under five minutes. We hold a fire drill every term to ensure that our children and staff are clear about what to do and that our systems work well. In addition to the fire drill, the school also holds earthquake drills and test lock lock-down down procedures, as well as taking part in the annual air raid drill. Our Health and Safety Committee continually monitor the effectiveness of our response to the drills to ensure that the safety of our children is paramount.
Practice Makes Perfect by Mr. Eamonn O'Callaghan
Whether you are playing football or learning a new language you need a great deal of practice to become successful. It is the same with art. Our weekly art lessons allow students to experience a variety of different art forms but to develop a deeper knowledge it is important that they practice making art outside of the classroom. With that in mind the art department ha has launched a new website, www.artattes.weebly.com to support your children’s art education. There you will find our online gallery, games and step by step art projects to try at home. Remember practice makes perfect.
BPS – Looking Smart! by Mr. Peter Sloan
As we are still in the early days of our new school year, we would like to share with you a reminder about school uniform expectations. The information that follows is taken from the Parent Handbook. We are often asked questions about footwear. Childre Children from Reception to Year 6 are allowed to wear trainers to school. Previously these were expected to be all black, however, trainers that are mainly black are quite acceptable. School uniform is one of the distinctive features of The British School ethos. While it may not make children more effective learners, it does help to promote our identity as a Section and to help out children to identify with BPS. Your help in making sure that they are smart and ready for school is very much appreciated!
