BULBUL A) RED WHISKERED BULBUL Order: Passeriformes Family: Pycnonotidae Common name: Red Whiskered bulbul Botanical name: Pycnonotus jocosus Local names: My great grandmother referred to it as ‘Mukutago’ in Konkani, Mukut meaning crown. The name could have come in because it had a crown like crest on its head. The Red whiskered bulbul is around 6-7 inches in size. It is called red whiskered bulbul because of the red face patch under its eye. It has mostly brown feathers, It has a dark brown head and light brown back with white feathers on its belly. The area under the tail (under tail coverts) is red. The tail is brown with white tips.
