CALL FOR PAPERS THE INDEPENDENT JOURNAL OF TEACHING AND LEARNING (previously the Journal of Independent Teaching and Learning)
Papers are called for from any willing contributors for the Independent Journal of Teaching and Learning, which is a peer reviewed journal that appears on the DHET list of accredited South African Journals. The requirements for papers are below or you can ask Marla Koonin to e-mail you the specifications – contact details are 011 676 8021 or
[email protected]. The following contributions will be considered for publication: • Research-based empirical, reflective or synoptic articles that would be of interest to the educational practitioner • Review articles that critically examine research carried out in a specific field • Discussion or advocacy papers suitable for publication in the section entitled “Practitioners’ Corner” • Book reviews that comprise a clear and concise evaluation of recently published books. Please consider writing for us – individually or as part of a team. So many of you are doing interesting things in and out of the classroom – from the innovative way you are teaching, to what you are learning about how to get students to engage in tutorials. Due to the increase in high quality papers submitted and our commitment to ensuring that this Journal provides an opportunity for the dissemination of the work of a wide variety of established and emerging authors we will not be able to publish more than one article per person in a three year cycle. If you have published in our Journal in the last three editions we hope you will submit your work to other journals and consider us as a source of publication in the future. We would also like to request that you pass on this call for papers to your colleagues. Please submit your papers to Marla Koonin (Managing Editor) at the above email address, who will channel papers to the Editor-in-Chief (Prof. Dolina Dowling) and also the reviewers involved in the double blind peer review process. Papers are accepted throughout the year and you will then be informed which edition your article is being reviewed for. A period of review will follow and detailed feedback given on your submission. NOTES FOR CONTRIBUTORS Manuscripts should be sent to the Managing Editor as per the above address. They should be typed in double space, in A4 format, in MS Word and should not exceed 5 000 words in length, excluding tables, figures and references. Manuscripts may be submitted by e-mail or on a CD. Tables and figures must be typed on separate sheets and not included as part of the text. Their
positions should be indicated in the manuscript. They should be numbered by Arabic numerals. Each manuscript should be accompanied by a title page and an Abstract of 100 – 150 words on a separate sheet. Manuscripts not conforming to these requirements will not be considered for publication. The full postal and e-mail address of the principle author should be included on the title page. Proofs will be sent to authors if there is sufficient time to do so. They should be corrected and returned within 48 hours of receipt. The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to publish without proofs having been signed-off by the author.
Yours faithfully Prof. Dolina Dowling (Editor-in-Chief) Marla Koonin (Managing Editor)
