Job Overview: Key leadership role that drives strategies to win our human rights campaigns and achieve our 2020 vision goals. This senior position leads and manages the Campaigns Team, which provides current expertise, develops and evaluates campaigns to win human rights impact alongside rights holders, communities and organisations. Responsibilities include domestic (Australian) human rights campaigns as well as participation in regional and global human rights campaigns with other Amnesty International offices and the International Secretariat. The Manager Campaigns is responsible for ensuring that the team provides issue expertise, strategy and coordination on campaigns within the AIA’s program, including opportunistic campaigns, crisis response campaigns and emerging issues. The position holder is expected to speak with authority on human rights campaign issues to public, media and stakeholder audiences; to engage and motivate activists and supporters; and to develop and evaluate campaign plans to deliver human rights wins. The position has a key role in AIA’s strategic and operational planning, working closely with all other teams to ensure an integrated and coordinated approach to achieving our human rights goals. It maintains expertise on overarching issues that cut across all campaigns and on the use of a variety of campaign strategies and tactics.

Manage and lead staff to develop, execute and monitor AIA’s campaign program to ensure achievement of human rights impact objectives in line with Amnesty International Australia’s strategic plan Develop, steer and provide advice on AIA‘s direction and program design to ensure campaigns are effective, engaging and empowering Oversee the AIA casework program to ensure integration with campaigns on current and developing issues Maintain knowledge of movements and trends, both externally and within AI’s international programs and policy, in order to provide expert input on campaign content and strategy Provide support to the National Director and Senior Leadership Team for high level meetings and public representation, and speak with authority and represent Amnesty International on human rights campaign issues to public, media and stakeholder audiences. Manage team including providing clear direction, constructive feedback, coaching and development continuously on an informal and formal basis Collaborate with other Line Managers to organise and allocate organisational resources across teams to ensure the efficient delivery of planned work and lead the weekly line managers’ planning meeting Perform role to a high standard within agreed timelines, and in line with AIA’s vision and values and ethos Undertake other tasks within your skills and competence as required.

Senior level knowledge of a broad range of human rights issues and the application of rights in domestic and international law Extensive experience in a leadership role in planning, implementing and evaluating strategic social change campaigns Proven ability to collaborate and engage independent activists, organised groups, diverse partner organisations and other stakeholders in effective social change campaigns Outstanding leadership and people management skills including leading, developing, coaching and managing a geographically dispersed team of people to achieve challenging goals and respond to emerging events Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to critically analyse and clearly articulate complex issues and to represent the organisation in public contexts, including in media and with government Experience in managing substantial projects including developing project proposals and budgets, working within procedures, adhering to quality standards, setting timelines and undertaking monitoring and evaluation Strong work ethic demonstrating energy, enthusiasm, flexibility, and a proven ability to self-organise, work under pressure and meet deadlines Willingness to undertake interstate travel.

Tertiary qualification in public policy, law or related fields, and/or equivalent experience Lived experience of human rights challenges and/or demonstrated personal commitment to human rights.
