Job Overview:
This role is responsible for leading the planning, coordination and delivery of human rights campaigns for Amnesty International Australia (AIA), to ensure that AIA is achieving impact in its human rights goals. The role provides issue expertise on AI campaigns to our staff teams, supporters and other stakeholders. This role will be required to lead campaigns on a range of human rights issues and make use of a variety of campaigning strategies and tactics.
Main Responsibilities:
Campaign planning, coordination and facilitation ● ● ●
Lead campaign project team in the development and effective implementation of campaign strategies and plans to achieve AIA’s human rights goals. Coordinate development of campaign tactics and the review of campaign strategies as required in response to changes in the external environment Maintain regular communications with the International Secretariat and other AI offices on current global campaigning priorities.
Issues Expertise ● ● ● ● ●
Research and monitor information from Amnesty International and external sources on designated campaign issues. Act as a key source of campaign content and strategy advice to AIA staff and supporters. Provide advice to AIA management regarding relevant human rights issues and campaign strategy. Represent AIA in the media and with external stakeholders as required. Ensure consistency of campaign strategies and content with established AI principles, policies and procedures.

Project management of major campaign projects, monitoring and reporting on progress of campaign plans. Evaluating project and campaign outcomes and making recommendations for greater impact and effectiveness.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
● Senior level knowledge of the international human rights framework and its application in domestic law. ● Well developed research and analytical skills ● A breadth of understanding of international issues and human rights violations ● Proven ability to develop and implement focused and strategic campaign plans designed to achieve concrete and measurable outcomes. ● Experience in developing effective campaigns focusing on legislation and human rights mechanisms. ● Experience managing multiple projects and solid understanding on project management approaches. ● Knowledge of political processes and the role of non- government organisations ● Experience in a range of campaigning and communications tools, including grassroots and online mobilisation. ● Senior level oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and media. ● Proven ability to organise own work, work under pressure and meet deadlines. ● Ability to coordinate a diverse team operating across a range of functional units. ● Capacity to evaluate and measure campaign outcomes objectively and critically.
Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
● Tertiary qualification in public policy, law or related fields, and/or equivalent experience ● Lived experience of human rights challenges and/or demonstrated personal commitment to human rights.
