The East African Wild Life Society (EAWLS) recognises the importance of marine resources and is aware of the threats facing these resources in Eastern Africa. It is the intention of EAWLS to employ a Marine Programme Coordinator to develop and implement a well coordinated marine conservation strategy to address these threats across Kenya’s and Tanzania’s coastlines. Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:• Designing and coordinating the implementation of a marine conservation strategy • Promoting an ecosystem based approach for the conservation and management of coastal marine ecosystems • Building and strengthening local communities and relevant stakeholders’ capacity to manage local coastal marine resources • Setting up and supporting community based structures and systems at priority sites that will enhance sustainable utilisation and management of marine resources • Providing input in the review of applicable national policies and regulations for the management of coastal and marine resources • Promoting development of sustainable livelihood options for vulnerable coastal communities • Enhancing awareness and education of local coastal communities and stakeholders on sustainable management of coastal and marine resources • Developing marine conservation proposals for funding consideration by donors • Building stakeholders’ capacity and competency in policy advocacy, good governance and the management of marine resources • Enhancing the visibility of EAWLS as an organization that seeks to collaborate and partner with relevant stakeholders in the promotion of management practices for the sustainability of coastal and marine resources • Preparing and implementing monitoring and evaluation protocols for the programme Requirements • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Biology and or other relevant qualifications from a recognized University, MSc. is an added advantage • Demonstrated leadership skills • Excellent communication and presentation skills • A minimum of five years relevant working experience • Flexible in respect of working hours and days Please send your application and CV to the address below so as to reach us not later than 23rd November 2012 The Executive Director East African Wild Life Society P.O.
