Austin Achieve Restorative Justice Coordinator GENERAL SUMMARY:

[email protected]) with any questions. JOB DESCRIPTION Title: Restorative Justice Coordinator Reporting to: Reece Hartle, Middle School Principal Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Receive and provide support for as many as 20 students who may be experiencing difficulty maintaining high standards for behavior in a classroom/school setting 2. Design and implement a program for restorative practices that ensures a balance between strengthening relationships with students, while deepening their commitment to, and respect for the broader Austin Achieve community 3. Strengthen your knowledge of restorative justice, restorative dialogue, and restorative practices, with an emphasis on research-based practices 4. Prepare trainings to support teachers and leadership staff in implementing restorative practices in a whole school setting 5. Collaborate with regional organizations, such as the Institute for Restorative Justice & Restorative Dialogue, to ensure a strong overall program 6. Adapt interventions to fit student needs and campus/district priorities, and routinely evaluate the effectiveness of policies, programs, and practices. 7. Collaborate closely with Austin Achieve’s School Social Worker to promote a school climate and culture conducive to student learning and teaching excellence 8. Maximize access to school-based, and community-based resources 9. Uphold the highest standards of professional ethics and compliance with state and federal law 10. Maintain adequate safeguards for the privacy and confidentiality of information Qualifications: 1. Fluent Spanish speakers preferred but not required 2. Willingness to work collaboratively with teachers to support students’ needs.
3. Deep seated belief in the mission and vision of Austin Achieve. 4. Be willing to do “whatever it takes” to ensure all students are prepared for academic success. Experience Preferred: 1. Previous success working with school systems and school staff/teachers. 2. Two years of experience working with low-income, diverse adolescent populations. 3. Experience initiating projects and working independently, without close supervision. Successes of Austin Achieve’s Restorative Justice program: ● Zero suspensions ● Staff understands and has full buy-in to the RJ approach ● Daily scholar and family restorative circles ● Daily academic support from teachers ● Social service/counseling support ● Student Justice Committee (SJC) is a student led organization that determines when RJ scholars have restored the damage done to the community and are ready to return to class. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT AUSTIN ACHIEVE:
● The leadership team is committed to supporting the Social and Emotional Development (SEL) of all students. In our advisory periods we implement a regular SEL curriculum. ● A typical day at Austin Achieve will run from 7:15 to 4:10pm. Additionally, Austin Achieve will have a 190-day school year. ● Austin Achieve opened with a 6th grade in August of 2012. AAPS will grow until we are serving pre K-12 and middle school will support grades 5-8. Austin Achieve will grow quickly, and numerous leadership opportunities will be available as the school expands.
