LYON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT-HR Department CAREER and TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE) COORDINATOR – Draft #3 Job Group: Administration Classification: Classified Terms of Employment: Pay Grade 11 on the Classified Salary Structure (12 month, 8 hours/day) FLSA Status: NON-EXEMPT POSITION SUMMARY: The primary responsibilities of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Coordinator are to coordinate activities associated with CTE, including 5 major functions: 1. Accountability, 2. Fiscal Management and compliance, 3. Curriculum and Instruction, 4.Community Involvement and Partnerships and 5. Human Resource support associated with Career & Technical Education. The following list provides examples of appropriate activities for each of the five major functions. 1.

Accountability. Responsibilities include: a. Assist Testing and Technology Director in the development and implementation of the annual Career and Technical Education Local Plan based on requirements of state and federal laws. b. Coordinate the annual collection of data including: Student Enrollment Data, Teacher staffing, School Courses, District’s completer follow-up surveys, Graduate/Completer/Non-Graduates, 1st & 2nd Semester grades, Proficiencies passed, Certificated Received, Tech-Prep students receiving college credit, and technical measures to meet state and federal achievement benchmarks. c. Prepare and submit all necessary reports as required by the LCSD, Nevada Department of Education and federal law governing Career and Technical Education (Perkins Legislation). Fiscal Management and Compliance : Responsibilities include: a. Plan, develop, direct, monitor, and maintain the Career and Technical Education budgets in accordance with established policies, local planning strategies, Standard Course of Study, and changing needs. b. Reconcile CTE financial records and prepare fiscal reports as required. c. Prepare state and federal CTE amendments, as needed. d. Ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws, regulations, procedures and policies. e. Purchase instructional supplies, materials, and equipment for maintaining and improving CTE programs and use of technology. f. Ensure procedures are established to maintain inventory control of equipment, materials and supplies in compliance with LCSD procedures and grant guidelines. Curriculum and Instruction: Responsibilities include: a. Assist Testing and Technology Director in providing comprehensive professional development of teachers and staff inclusive of Career and Technical Education program curriculum integration. b. Encourage and support the improvement of instruction. c. Support and promote active participation of teachers and students in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs).

 

d. Promote cooperative education, internships, shadowing and apprenticeships as instructional methodologies. e. Coordinate the maintenance and updating of technology and network components in Career and Technical Education labs. f. Standardize within the District the development and implementation of articulation agreements between secondary and post-secondary institutions to allow a seamless transition for students. g. Maintain a current knowledge of curriculum development and instructional strategies resulting in effective education design and delivery. h. Support and promote industry credentialing of programs, teachers, and students. 4.

Community Involvement and Partnerships: Responsibilities include: a. Promote school and community relations with agencies, individuals, and groups within the community regarding the standards and relevance of Career and Technical Education programs. b. Represent LCSD at local, state, and national conferences and serve on tasks force and other committees as deemed appropriate. c. Assist in the development of partnerships with key external stakeholders such as Business and Industry, Institutes of High Learning, Chamber of Commerce, Workforce Development Board, Economic Development that advocate the value of CTE by fostering high skill, high wage, or high demand career opportunities for students. d. Communicate pertinent Career and Technical Education information to the Superintendent, School, Department of Education, CTE staff and advisory committees. e. Continuously appraise, evaluate and promote the Career and Technical Education program utilizing a CTE Advisory Committee.

Human Resources: Responsibilities include: a. Serve as a liaison between the LCSD Human Resources Office and the Licensure Division of the State Department of Education regarding CTE instructors. b. Assist in the recruiting, interview, hire, support, and allocation of personnel in Career and Technical Education programs. c. Provide support to Sites to ensure correct coding for CTE staff on staffing report.

. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented. 1. Provide CTE support to high school principals, teachers, superintendent, and local board of education through effective communication of pertinent information. 2. Facilitate appropriate staffing and staff development focused on improved instruction and student achievement through performance data analysis. 3. Assist in preparing the strategic plan and vision, management of budget, technology, and program equipment 4. Collaborate with postsecondary institutions to promote seamless transitions and articulation for students. 5. Participate in regional, state, and national conferences, workshops, and meetings to stay current on CTE issues such as legislation, policies, labor market, and economic development trends.

 

 

6. Work cooperatively to build strong community/business and industry involvement to promote and enhance Career and Technical Education Programs 7. Work with the Testing & IT Director to determine future needs of CTE programs. 8. Perform other job-related duties, as assigned by the Testing & IT Director POSITION EXPECTATIONS: Knowledge of: 1. Lyon County School District practices 2. State of Nevada Career & Technical Education Reporting Requirements 3. Data collection within PowerSchool 4. Intermediate to advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office and specialized software (i.e. AS400, LCSD Licensed Software, etc…) Ability to: 1. Work independently in completing assigned tasks 2. Deal courteously with the public and obtain the information necessary to assist them 3. Research problems and implement solutions 4. Handle multiple tasks with shifting priorities 5. Work and communicate effectively with all people contacted in the work environment, both orally and in writing 6. Understand and carry out moderately complex written and oral instructions POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Education and Training: 1. Associates degree or higher preferred. Equivalent experience in Career & Technical Education may be substituted for education.

 

 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical and mental requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Cognitive ability and dexterity to operate office equipment for long periods of time. Strength and stamina to bend, stoop, sit and stand for long periods. Dexterity and coordination to handle periodic lifting and moving of boxes. Reaching for items above and below waist level. Involves hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds to waist height. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed under the following conditions: Position functions primarily within an office. May involve exposure to noise levels ranging from low to moderate for frequent time periods. Hazards: Stress, anxiety and office equipment (as related to specific assignment). Minimal risk of exposure to hazardous chemicals or blood borne pathogens.
