CCS Seed to Feed Coordinator Work Status: ● Part Time—flexible for qualified individuals ● Able to work some nights and weekends ● Reports to Executive Director ● Up to 30% travel Overview: Seed to Feed is a program of Church Community Services (CCS) and works as an extension of the foodservices area. The program began in 2012 with the intention of providing fresh, local produce and meat to food pantries throughout Elkhart County. Currently the program is comprised of 15 gardens, a greenhouse, a cash crop field, , a variety of educational initiatives, and a partnership with Men Alive, the men’s empowerment program of CCS. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: The Seed to Feed Coordinator is responsible for managing all aspects of the Seed to Feed program. This includes the planning, administrating, and evaluating of all the work that goes into maintenance of the gardens, cash crops, livestock, farmer/donor involvement, and educational programing. The Seed to Feed Coordinator will offer direct oversight of the gardens associated with Seed to Feed and is responsible for the coordination of the preparation, planting, maintaining, and harvesting of the gardens and greenhouse. This position will work in compliance with the regulations and standards set by both CCS and the Good Agricultural Practices. This positions works with many different type of volunteers and mentors for support. Required Skills and Qualifications: ● Supervision and coordination of volunteers ● Committed to accuracy and thoroughness ● Effective communication and relational skills ● Committed to ongoing learning ● Ability to delegate ● Ability and willingness to learn sanitary food storage and handling guidelines and practices ● Competency with computer software such as databases, spreadsheets, and word processing. ● Ability to lift and carry objects weighing 50 lbs. ● Ability to work with diverse populations ● Current Driver’s License
Desired Skills and Qualifications: ● Knowledge of ServSafe Training or other similar computer software ● Knowledge of USDA and TEFAP regulations ● Forklift certification ● Class B Chauffeur's License or CDL ● Commitment to ongoing learning ● Knowledge of plant propagation, garden planning and crop rotation, and compost management ● Knowledge of fundraising and program financial development strategies ● Desire to work with and help to educate surrounding community in matter of food and health Desired Experiences: ● Prior experience in program administration or management ● Forklift operation ● Food handling ● Data entry ● Public Speaking/ Donor Relations/ Customer Service ● Understanding of or connection to the local agricultural community is a plus Education: ● High school diploma or general education degree (GED) ● Some college or Military experience desired Employment Requirements: Must provide a negative pre-employment drug screening and successful background clearance Disclaimer This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee in this position.
