Candy Cane Wall Hanging - 26” x 36” Color 1: Cut 2 rectangle strips 24 1/2” x 2 1/2” Cut 2 rectangle strips 14 1/2” x 2 1/2” Cut 3 1/2” squares for half-square triangles Color 2: Cut 2 rectangle strips 24 1/2” x 2 1/2” Cut 2 rectangle strips 14 1/2” x 2 1/2” Color 3: Cut 2 squares 2 1/2”, cut 4 rectangles 4 1/2” x 2 1/2”, cut 2 rectangles 6 1/2” x 2 1/2”, cut 1 strip 12 1/2” x 2 1/2”, cut 1 rectangle 8 1/2” x 12 1/2”, cut 6 squares 3 1/2” for half-square triangles. Color 4: Cut 4 squares 6 1/2” x 6 1/2”, cut 1 square 4 1/2” by 4 1/2”, cut 4 squares 2 1/2” for flying geese, cut 4 squares 3 1/2” x 3 1/2” for half-square triangles. Color 5: Cut 3 1/2” squares for half-square triangles. Color 6: Cut 3 1/2” squares for half-square triangles. Color 7: Cut 3 1/2” squares for half-square triangles.

Half-Square Triangles - you will be making 28 half-square triangles, color variations with amount required will be provided after these piecing instructions for 1 half-square triangle block. 1- Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of 1 square 3 1/2” (pink) and place it right sides together with another 3 1/2” square (red) and sew a 1/4” seam on both sides of the drawn line. Shown as diagonal dashed lines in the diagram above. 2- Cut along the drawn line to get 2 half-square triangle blocks, press seams. 3- Trim block to 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” square. ***Note - I built my candy cane block from the bottom up and pressed my seams in opposite directions so that they would fit nicely together. I pressed the seams as I completed the blocks. Also, for the half-square triangle blocks that will be sewn to another triangle, do not trim the block until after they are sewn together. Instructions for that block below on next page. 5

3 triangle block - color variations and amount required available in diagram to the left. 1- Take a half-square triangle block and place it right sides together with a 3 1/2” square. Draw 1 1 1 a diagonal line as shown on diagram. 1 1 1 2- Sew 1/4” away on boths sides of drawn line. As shown as a diagonal dashed line in the diagram above. 3- Press seams. 4- Trim block to 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” square. You will make 6 blocks with the above color variations.

Flying Geese blocks: make 2

1- Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of a yellow 2 1/2” square and place it right sides together on the left side of the grey 4 1/2” x 2 1/2” rectangle. Sew along the drawn line. Trim excess fabric leaving a 1/4” seam allowance and press seam out. 2- Place another 2 1/2” yellow square rights sides together on the right side of the grey rectangle and sew along the drawn line. Trim and press. 6 1/2” x 6 1/2”

1- Sew the candy cane block together in 4 sections using the blocks made and remaining cuts of fabric. The sections are divided by the bold black lines in the diagram to the left. Press seams well. 2- Sew together the white and red strips and press seams. 3- Sew together the top and bottom white and red sections to the yellow 6 1/2” square. 4- Sew the white and red sections to each side of the quilt, press seams. 5- Sew the top and bottom border. Press seams. Quilt as desired and pick a fun binding! Merry Christmas! I hope you enjoyed this cute project!
