Bringing Books to Children Who Need Them A Book for Every Child “Food Bank” for Children’s Books
About:
The Children’s Book Project (CBP) is San Francisco’s oldest and most prolific organization promoting childhood literacy by providing books to children who need them. Since 1992, CBP’s book site has collected and distributed more than 2.5 million free books (up to 13,000/month) to teachers, librarians, health and community centers, homeless shelters, literacy groups and after-school programs in the Greater Bay Area (from as far away as Fresno, Sacramento and Eureka). The CBP’s Read Aloud Coalition facilitates social workers, nurses, and home visitors to engage parents in the crucial developmental work of reading to their young children (ages 0 – 5), and provides new books for their families.
