TRANSLANTIONS Da Pacem Domine
Grant us peace, O Lord, in this our day.
Laude Sion
Praise, O Zion, praise your Savior, praise your leader and shepherd in hymns and canticles. As much as you are able, so much dare, for He is above all praise, nor can you praise Him enough. Good Shepherd, true bread, Jesus, have mercy on us. Of, feed us, still keep us Thine, so that we may see Thy glories in the land of the living.
Ave Maria
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus Christ. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
PROGRAM NOTES Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep
Students from Dr. Thompson's class in modal counterpoint at Harvard University complained about having to use Latin texts. In response, he composed this Motet (using words from "The New England Primer") at the chalkboard in May, 1947.
Tribute To Our Armed Forces
In recognition and with heartfelt thanks, the College Chorus performs a medley of the songs of our military branches: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.
Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor
The text comes from the sonnet "The New Colossus." The lines used for this song are also inscribed on the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World; French: La Liberté éclairant le monde) is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. The copper statue, designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, a French sculptor, was built by Gustave Eiffel and dedicated on October 28, 1886. It was a gift to the United States from the people of France.
THANK YOU Thank you to Nick Palmer, Director of Music, for enabling us to use this beautiful venue for our concert this afternoon. Thank you to Betsey Ingraham, for just about everything! And to Morgan Amick for her work putting this program together
