RESEARCH EXPERIENCE •
Solicited by the grassroots organization Citizen’s Environmental Association of Slippery Rock Area (CEASRA) to create surface analysis maps of ground water analytes around a local landfill. Work included organizing EPA water sampling data, database development, and conducting spatial analysis in relation to the landfill and water quality. Additionally, developed and administered a survey to local residents evaluating their concerns of environmental risk and water quality.

Initiated an independent study titled “Examining Sedimentation and Surface Area Change of Lake Nicaragua (1978 – 2000). Analyzed remotely sensed Landsat imagery from 1978, 1986, and 2000 to determine if local claims by Nicaraguans of lake infilling and shoreline advancement, by as much as one kilometer over twenty years, could be identified. Work included classification of near infrared bands, digitizing of lake perimeters, editing vector shapefiles, calculation of lake area, perimeter and margin of error, and use of spatial analysis to categorize pixels into varying classes of change. Final results were presented at the Association of American Geographers Convention 2005, Slippery Rock University Research Symposium 2005, Pittsburgh Geologic Society 2005, and the Regional Alliance Research Symposium 2005.

March 2005 traveled to Sansalvador, The Bahamas as part of a field research team to map and evaluate the health of coral reefs. The work was conducted using ArcPad in connection with Delorme BlueLogger GPS units. High resolution live mapping was completed of large coral reef beds. Beyond collection duties included data QC, file management, and spatial analysis of reef disease and classification.

October 2004 was solicited by an individual from the Pittsburgh Geologic Society (PGS) to create maps for a PGS field guide. Remapped the glacial boundaries of Western Pennsylvania according to field research done by Dr. D’Urso. Work included heads up digitizing of field data, database management, and hard copy map production.
