Art Club provides the opportunity for visual artists to get together to work on current projects, or to develop new ideas using sketchbooks. It is also an opportunity for students not currently enrolled in art to continue their artistic development. Open to student in grades 8 through 12. Numbers and participants vary from week to week. Purpose:

The high school Book Club is intended to foster a love for literature and discussion. Meetings will include book critique, literary questions, text related multi-media projects, and movie viewings of book to film adaptations. Students will be able to vote on which books will be discussed; they are welcome to participate every meeting or anytime a specific book sparks an interest. The drama program presents a play each November, ranging from a classical tragedy to contemporary comedy. Students will work together as actors and stage crew. Open to students in grades 8 through 12; Membership in the cast is by audition in September. Listen for announcements. Stage crew is on a volunteer basis. Mrs. Mecca - [email protected] Rehearsals take place after school from September into November, usually 3 days per week from 2:15 to 4:00 p.m. with more frequent practices as needed in final weeks before the production.

FOOD PANTRY Purpose: Membership Requirement: Moderator(s): Meetings:

Since 1992, the Coyle Cassidy Food Pantry has provided grocery assistance for approximately 300 families on the last Saturday of the month. The Food Pantry’s simple mission is to help feed families with compassion and respect. Open to all students 6-12. Students may join at any point during the school year, simply attend any of the meetings and/or Food Pantry distributions. Mr. Cote – [email protected] Food Pantry is held the last Saturday morning of every month from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. Additional meetings may be announced as warranted. Along with the ongoing Food Pantry schedule here at school, members will be encouraged to take part in the Project Bread Walk for Hunger in May 2017 to be held in Boston. To introduce high school students to the many possible careers in education and to explore through service which areas appeal to the students, from tutoring to working in school library. This club teaches the skills of journalistic-style writing, general writing quality, and carries on the tradition of the Warrior Word. Open to all students in all grades 6-12. The societies recognize excellence in the study of language. French, Portuguese, Spanish and Chinese-The student must be in grade 10 or higher and must be enrolled in the honors level of the respective language with an A- average in the language. The average will be determined by the previous year’s final grade and the first two terms of the current year. Induction into the societies is held in the Spring. The Math Team is open to all middle school students who enjoy math, however, only 7th and 8th graders are eligible to complete in the Massasoit Math League Competitions. Meets take place during the school day. The first meet is at Beckwith in Norton on January 27. The second meet is at Coyle and Cassidy Middle School on May 5. Open to all middle school students who love math. Mock Trial is a court room simulation activity. Students will compete with other school around the state. Open to all high school students willing to attend regularly to prepare for competitions. Purpose:

Model UN is an academic competition that simulates real-world debates on international relations, law, and politics. Students take on the role of foreign diplomats and debate the issues with other schools. Open to all high school students – stop by 107 to find out more! This group exists to educate students in the many aspects of musical theater, culminating in performances in April. Open to all students in all grades 8-12. Meeting dates are 3-4 days per week (after school) with more frequent and evening rehearsals closer to the production. The performances are March 31, April 1, April 2 of 2017.

The National Junior Honor Society recognizes outstanding middle school students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. NEW ENGLAND MATH LEAGUE Purpose:

This group provides challenging mathematical problems in order to enhance a student’s mathematical thinking. The NEML sponsors six contests each year. The exam takes 30 minutes. A follow-up session will be offered to review the exams for any student who is interested. This league offers challenging math problems to students of all levels. Open to any high school student who enjoys math and would like a challenge. You may attend one or all of the contests. This group plays music at home games as well as rallies and some away games. They serve to build school spirit. To spread awareness about the sanctity of life and foster a culture of life within our school and society; we attempt to carry this out by studying and discussing life issues; catechizing friends; reaching out to those in need; courageously speaking out when the sanctity of life is attacked; and supporting those fighting for the cause of life. We support these issues through prayer culminating with the Washington, D.C. March for Life in January. The middle school Quiz Bowl Team works together to prepare strategies for successfully answering trivia questions in a competition setting. The purpose of Coyle and Cassidy’s SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Chapter is to empower students to make positive decisions by making big changes in small ways. SHAKESPEAREANS OF CCHS Purpose:

This group exists to help students appreciate Shakespeare’s language and characters by learning and performing Shakespearean monologues and sonnets for a school competition. Winners in the school competition receive awards from the National Endowment for the Arts and from the English Speaking Union. The winner of the English Speaking Union Award represents the school in a state-wide competition. Open to all high school students, no experience necessary. Mrs. Mecca – [email protected] Specific dates and times TBA. Meetings are optional, usually 3-4 days per week for 3 weeks before the competition. Students may attend all or some of the meetings after school, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This year’s competition is January 12, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.

STUDENT AMBASSADORS CLUB Purpose: Membership Requirement: Moderator(s): Meetings:

This club helps to market the Warrior pride. Student Ambassadors are the face of Coyle and Cassidy at on campus and off campus events! You may be called upon to work Open House, give tours, visit area schools, or host a “Warrior for a Day.” Any middle or high school student with a positive attitude who would like to share the good things about their school. Student Council is an organization responsible for fostering the growth of school spirit, as well as the school mission. Our group is dedicated to building pride in being a Coyle and Cassidy Warrior. Elected positions are by vote. Any student wishing to run for an elected position must submit paperwork in the Spring. Elections are in October for Freshmen. The Student Council Board is comprised of elected leadership and class officers. All students are welcome to help in the execution of any activity.
