List the differences between liquids and gases. A soap bubble of 50mm diameter has a pressure difference of 20N/m2 between its inside and outside. Determine the coefficient of surface tension of the solution.

2.a) b)

What considerations govern the diameter of glass tube to be used in a manometer? Determine the elevation at which the pressure at 200C will be 75KN/m2 under isothermal conditions if the pressure and density at sea level at this temperature are 101.325KN/m2 and 1.208Kg/m3.

3.a) b)

In what ways can the separation of flow be avoided. Obtain the equation of stream line passing through the point (2, 3) if the velocity components for the two dimensional flow are given by  = -y2 ; and  = -3x

4.a)

Why does fluid weight have no influence on the flow pattern if fluid is fully confined with in the boundary? Determine the discharge through a 50mm diameter external mouth piece under a head of 3.0m. Also determine the absolute pressure at vena contracta. Take Cc=0.62 and Pc=101.30KN/m2.

5.a)

What is priming of siphons? Why is the limit of minimum pressure imposed in the case of siphons? A nozzle fitted to a pipe of 100mm diameter and 300m long pipe operates under a head of 90m. Find the area of the nozzle for maximum transmission of the power and the maximum power transmitted. Assume f = 0.04.

Sketch and explain the working of a single stage centrifugal pump. A single stage centrifugal pump has an impeller of 250mm diameter which rotates at 1800r.p.m and lifts 60 liters per sec to 25m with an efficiency of 70%. Obtain the number of stages and diameter of each impeller of a similar multi stage pump to lift 75 liters/sec to 175m at 1500 r.p.m.
