There's another part where you can modify the length of time it looks for (currently it's 168 hours/7 days) and the size limit (currently ~3 MB). The sections to look for are (GetDate).AddHours(168) and $_.totalbytes gt "3000000" permalink

How to manage groups with Azure AD Sync and NO onprem Exchange?
by stonetear in exchangeserver [S] 1 point 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) Ok, thanks. I guess we never realized that the 'official' way to do this is to keep one onsite box. How to manage groups with Azure AD Sync and NO onprem Exchange? (xpost /r/Exchange)
by stonetear in Office365 [S] 1 point 4 months ago Thanks for the reply is this the 'real' official way to do it? I'm having trouble visualizing this the advantages of using ADsync are pretty obvious, at least for password sync for users, but if that then forces you to use ADSIedit to change things that previously just required a checkbox click, and/or forcing you to keep an onprem Exchange server... that seems like a huge pain. [–] stonetear
For example, changing a distro group to allow external senders to send email to the group. That's a checkbox moment, and shouldn't require ADSIedit. permalink

If I ping from the Forticlient PC in, I see what I assume are normal ping traffic entries (though note I actually see request timed out on the Forticlient PC and don't get a ping reply) 8.879626 ssl.root in 10.212.134.20 > 10.1.1.1: icmp: echo request 8.880055 lan out 10.1.1.254 > 10.1.1.1: icmp: echo request 8.880431 lan in 10.1.1.1 > 10.1.1.254: icmp: echo reply 8.880528 ssl.root out 10.1.1.1 > 10.212.134.20: icmp: echo reply If I try to ping from the 10.1.1.1 device, I only see the following, with no other types of entries: 159.208613 lan in 10.1.1.1 > 10.212.134.20: icmp: echo request There is a static route which references the SSL VPN client IP range which points to the ssl.root interface. There is also the standard/automatically added policy for ssl.root to LAN. I tried adding an additional policy back from LAN to ssl.root but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. It does appear to be all traffic, as I can't telnet to a few open ports on the 10.1.1.1 device either (ie, it's not just ICMP) If I run the debug flow, then ping from 10.1.1.1 to the SSL VPN client IP, I get the following: # id=20085 trace_id=3 func=print_pkt_detail line=4478 msg="vdroot received a packet(proto=1, 10.1.1.1:1>10.212.134.20:8) from lan. code=8, type=0, id=1, seq=18921." id=20085 trace_id=3 func=init_ip_session_common line=4629 msg="allocate a new session000325fa" id=20085 trace_id=3 func=vf_ip4_route_input line=1596 msg="find a route: flags=00000000 gw10.212.134.20 via ssl.root" id=20085 trace_id=3 func=fw_forward_handler line=675 msg="Allowed by Policy4: SNAT" id=20085 trace_id=3 func=__ip_session_run_tuple line=2606 msg="SNAT 10.1.1.1>23.24.145.45:62464" Pinging from the VPN client PC to 10.1.1.1 yields: id=20085 trace_id=4 func=print_pkt_detail line=4478 msg="vdroot received a packet(proto=1, 10.212.134.20:1>10.1.1.1:8) from ssl.root. code=8, type=0, id=1, seq=34." id=20085 trace_id=4 func=init_ip_session_common line=4629 msg="allocate a new session0003262f" id=20085 trace_id=4 func=vf_ip4_route_input line=1596 msg="find a route: flags=00000000 gw10.1.1.1 via lan" id=20085 trace_id=4 func=fw_forward_handler line=675 msg="Allowed by Policy3:" id=20085 trace_id=5 func=print_pkt_detail line=4478 msg="vdroot received a packet(proto=1, 10.1.1.1:1>10.212.134.20:0) from lan. code=0, type=0, id=1, seq=34." id=20085 trace_id=5 func=resolve_ip_tuple_fast line=4539 msg="Find an existing session, id0003262f, reply direction" id=20085 trace_id=5 func=vf_ip4_route_input line=1596 msg="find a route: flags=00000000 gw10.212.134.20 via ssl.root" permalink

30D Can't get Forticlient IPsec nor SSL VPN to work
by stonetear in fortinet [S] 1 point 4 months ago Afroman, looks like the user group not being in the policy was the cause. I can connect via the FortiClient now. However, I can't seem to get to/ping the regular LAN. The inbound policy from ssl.root to LAN looks normal. NAT is enabled, I believe this is normal from looking at some other FGT units. We don't need a separate LAN > ssl.root policy correct? [–] stonetear

by stonetear in fortinet [S] 1 point 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) Update: Things APPEAR to be working now, though I still get some old entries from the other firewalls, but no new ones. Maybe it's from when the FA was first being stood up last week. [–] stonetear

FortiAnalyzer keeps defaulting to all devices instead of the ones I choose
by stonetear in fortinet [S] 1 point 7 months ago Hi Afroman I had played with this very setting (matching the device ID), but no matter what I put in that field (even a bogus serial number) it still shows all of the VPN logins for all three of the devices attached to this FortiAnalyzer.... I don't get it. [–] stonetear
The firewall I'm trying to pull data from is a 100D in a HA cluster with another 100D I've tried both serial numbers. Is the HA config potentially a problem? The FA discovered the HA cluster with no issues and it shows the cluster name in the device manager. permalink

This is an example of what I'm seeing. Even though there is only one device selected in my test dataset, the bottom six entries in the test output are from a different firewall. Additionally, you can see that the time period is set to 2 hours, yet the test output shows data older than two hours. Any ideas? http://i.imgur.com/u0ws5vf.jpg

Just rewatched "The Measure of a Man"...
by bgiu in startrek 5 points 1 year ago My only complaint with this episode is Capt. Phillipa Louvois (The judge/Picard's former love interest) toes the line a little too closely of "I'm just a woman, I don't know what to do!" at the end when she's delivering her verdict. Starting around 41 min. I think if the 'judge' had been cast as a male character, the delivery would have been very different. [–] stonetear

Are you seeing more of Fortinet?
by afroman_says in fortinet 1 point 1 year ago We're a MSP that used to sell Juniper/Netscreen for SMBs exclusively, and as the Netscreen line started to get phased out, we evaluated five different vendors in mid2012, and Fortinet definitely came out on top. [–] stonetear
Today, we've got somewhere around 175 fortinet devices deployed (mostly fortigate/fortAP) and have been extremely happy with them. We really love the integration between the Fortigates and FortiAPs. Our support team has been very helpful, and the range of additional products (UTM, FortiAnalyzer, FortiExtender, and 2FA with FortiToken in particular) have helped us look great. I would love to see more easy "out of the box" reporting options on the Fortigate line. Higherups love shiny reports, and it'd be nice to be able to hand them a web usage report without going through a ton of config. permalink

Advice on making a raised bed garden?
by RS_is_life in DIY 2 points 1 year ago I've built a number of beds this year, just build two of the basic rectangle frames, stand them up on the long side, sidebyside. Then, with the help of a few clamps or a buddy to keep the two parts together night and tight, screw the corner post 4x4s into both sets of rectangle frames. I made my corner posts 23" shorter than the height of the finished raised bed, so that some soil could cover the corner posts and give it a uniform look. [–] stonetear
For a long bed (I'd say anything over 8 feet) you may also want another 2x4 or 4x4 at the midpoint for additional strength against unwanted movement/warping over time, which leads to soil/moisture seepage out the seam between the two sets of rectangle frames. Some glue or other nontoxic seam filler between the two halves can help as well. If you're really doing the full 16 feet you may want two sets at the quarter points along the length (corner post mid support mid support corner post) permalink

by briangig in exchangeserver 2 points 1 year ago While you should check all of the URLs that people are mentioning, you may also want to create a fresh Outlook profile on a user's PC that is having the problem. Small Boxes
1 of 42
When there are only small scraps left in the scrap bin, it's time to make small boxes!
I was in the mood for a simple project and it's always rewarding to use up scrap I've been hoarding for too long. Nothing too complicated (I'll bevel the tablesaw blade to 45 degrees but no crazy curves, cuts, or angles), just some easy relaxing in the woodshop. The initial plan was for a few boxes, but since I was already going through the trouble of setting up fences for cuts, might as well use up all of the small scraps and make... twenty or so. No banana for scale, but the boxes are 2.5" x 4" and ~1.5" tall (save the cherry box which is about 2 1/2" tall). While these were built with power tools, some predimensioned lumber from a supplier online or local, a fine tooth hand saw, miter box, small router plane, and a block plane to chamfer could put something together very similar. by twentyfourfifty in woodworking [–] stonetear 2 points 1 year ago

by es0tericeccentric
[–] stonetear
in exchangeserver
This is probably diving into paranoia, but could it be possible that the user is setting up a rule to divert/block/deny delivery somehow, but since Outlook 'sent' it, it shows up in the sent items? Or, the user makes a contact with their manager's name (but fake email address), they 'send' their report, then delete the contact and any bounceback they get? I don't know why someone would go through this effort just to avoid sending a report they seemed like they were going to send anyway, just thinking outside the box. Plus I like devious shit like this :) permalink

dafuq? I'm really struggling to see how this could be cost efficient. I'm sure they've crunched the numbers and all, but seems like not enough info. Parikh showed the system on stage at the Open Compute summit. Outside it looks like a plain server cabinet, about 7 feet tall, but inside there's all kinds of robotic wizardry to move the discs around. The discs are stacked in piles, and a robotic picker can quickly select a disc from a pile and move it to one of 16 burners in the system, which write data to the discs. :X https://www.reddit.com/user/stonetear/comments/#res:nerpage=1

Native... Americans! He's playing as the Iroquois About 2,000 years ago, the Hopewell Indians settled along the Grand River near present day Grandville. Their presence is still seen in the preserved burial mounds. By the late 17th century, the Ottawa had set up villages on the west bank of the Grand River at the site of what would later become Grand Rapids. For these peoples, as well as for later explorers, fur traders and settlers, river served as an important navigational trade route.[3] /wikipedia permalink

Question: Any news on the Wheel of Time Encyclopedia? Answer: Harriet was asked about this at our signing, and she said that it was well on its way. This is not simply an update of the Guide released way back when, but is a comprehensive encyclopedia. It will contain art, and it will include things from Robert Jordan's notes that didn't make it into the series. Additionally, we ran into a problem with a EQL PS6010 where having thin provisioned VMs on top of a thin provisioned LUN was causing all sorts of problems between reported size and actual size on the SAN. Is Tyrion a Targaryen bastard?
by thiet711 in gameofthrones 2 points 4 years ago I believe Jenna was referring to Tywin and Tyrion being of like mind, devious and plotting, etc. She was trying to tell Jamie that while he was/had been a great warrior, he could never hold a candle to Tywin as a leader/planner, that Tyrion was much more like his father than Jamie in this regard. This is why after Jamie makes the seemingly hardass/coldly calculating decision to release Edmure, but threaten to throw his wife and child over the walls with a trebuchet, he thinks "Who's Tywin's son now?" (paraphrasing), as if to show that he too can be cold and manipulative. [–] stonetear

by [deleted] in WoT
4 points 4 years ago It's an interesting theory, though we don't seem to have any precedent for lifeafterdeath scenarios (other than being spun back into the Pattern as a hero of the ages) or infusing one's dying essence into objects or forces. [–] stonetear
Maybe it's more like Perrin's powerforged hammer, where a channeler(s) channels the one power into an object using Certain Weaves to infuse the object with the powerenhancing abilities. The more channelers/greater the power, the more powerful the resulting angreal/sa'angreal is. permalink

I don't mind it personally, I just think given the different medium, they had to find different ways to establish important characteristics about characters. I personally am not a huge fan of how blatant they made Stannis and Melisandre (as well as the Margery/Renly thing), but they also don't necessarily have a whole lot of time available for subtlety in the ten hours they have to fit the book into. If the stories about a twoseason coverage of book three turns out to be true, I expect to hold them to a higher standard, given the immense amount of badassery in book three, and having twenty hours to cover it! permalink

by Phatshady912 in asoiaf 17 points 4 years ago As every team who has tried to take large books to the screen, it's apparently EXTREMELY quickly that you can't just shoot it the way it's written. It's completely impractical. Things must be shown, rather than told many times. You can't just pause what's going on on the screen and have the character announce what they're thinking in that "inner voice" mode. [–] stonetear

Dell is purchasing Wyse
by [deleted] in networking
4 points 4 years ago Here's the email I got this morning: [–] stonetear
Dear Valued Partner, I’m reaching out to let you know that today, Dell announced its intent to acquire Wyse Technology. As you may know, Wyse is the global leader in client cloud computing. The Wyse portfolio includes industryleading thin, zero and cloud client solutions with advanced management, desktop virtualization and cloud software supporting desktops, laptops and next generation mobile devices. This product portfolio complements Dell’s existing desktop virtualization and mobility solutions and aligns with our vision of providing innovative and complete endtoend IT solutions to our customers. I hope you share in my excitement about the opportunities this acquisition will bring to Dell Partners. We firmly believe that the expanded capabilities Wyse brings will provide new market opportunity for the full range of Dell’s commercial solutions and services, from the desktop to the datacenter. Like we have with other acquisitions, we plan to take the very best of the Wyse channel program and model and combine it with our PartnerDirect program to bring the best to our channel partners. Through Dell’s existing Wyse reseller agreement, you have the ability to resell Wyse throughout the Americas, EMEA and APJ today*. If you have an existing partnership with Wyse, you may continue to procure product through your current vehicles. You can also find a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) here. Dell’s acquisition of Wyse remains subject to customary closing conditions. We will actively keep you informed and send out additional information and resources in the near future. Sincerely, Greg Davis Vice President & General Manager, Global Commercial Channels permalink

She licked her lips again. Her entire mouth had gone dry. There had to be a way out. "I have a better plan, more bold. You will be impressed. Al'Thor thinks I am dead, and so I can"
"No." Such a quiet voice, but so horrible. Graendal found she could not speak. Something had taken her voice. "'No," Shaidar Haran continued. "This opportunity has been given to another. As long as they don't suck you into a contract, sure. Also be aware that the install process can take several hours, as they have to bring in the fiber signal from the pole, mount a huge box in your wiring area (seriously it's like 2 feet by 1 foot), and possibly run cabling through your house to your modem area/TVs, if you don't already have RG6 grade cabling in your home. This may not be a big deal if you're in an apartment or a smaller place, but the guy that installed it here had to run cable all over my basement rafters because our place didn't have much in the way of cabling. That being said, totally worth it, and the installation is free regardless! permalink

What solution do you recommend to keep a history of all email? (exchange 2007, about 200 mailboxes)
by IllBeAHero in sysadmin 2 points 4 years ago How loaded is your server? You could set up a journaling mailbox that will record all inbound/outbound email, but this journal mailbox will fill up very fast with 200 users. If you have the space and the server horsepower, this may not be a problem (keep in mind it will basically double your storage requirements going forward). [–] stonetear
A better solution might be a third party program or service (like Symantec Enterprise Vault or MX Logic's (now McAfee) email archive service). These services pull the emails out of the journaling mailbox and save them to their own respective storage systems. https://www.reddit.com/user/stonetear/comments/#res:nerpage=1

Depending on the circumstances your company is requiring this for (usually legal purposes), make sure that they realize that this needs to be budgeted for accordingly, as copying and retaining all of these emails, making them searchable and accessible etc is not a oneday task and requires resources/money. They can't just spring this on you and expect it to happen without being accounted for properly. I'm a big fan of MX Logic's email archive product, due to things being offsite and not needing additional hardware/storage. I'm sure there are other offsite/cloud/etc solutions that follow the same model. My company is a top tier reseller for MX Logic, send me a PM if you're interested in talking about it more. permalink

I've never really been a fan of SBS. Everything being tied into wizards and shit not working if you don't use said wizards really fries my egg. That being said, SBS 2003 was decent at the time, but 08 and 11 have consistently been a pain in my ass :( permalink

Simon Pegg: "I think that the theme music to Enterprise was probably the most hideous Star Trek moment in history."
by mellowmonk
2 points 4 years ago Huge Trek nerd here. When Enterprise initially premiered back in the day, I literally watched the intro sequence, and never watched anything else from the series again until many years later when I finally went through the series on DVD out of curiosity. My god I've never been so put off by an series' intro as I was that day. [–] stonetear

Is Microsoft support a reasonable option?
by [deleted] in sysadmin
17 points 4 years ago Wow, I am surprised to hear about the bad experiences you guys have had. I work for a smallmedium sized consulting firm (21 employees), and we call MS a few times a year when some shit hits the fan. It's always been a consistently good experience, with our issues resolved usually right away, but definitely within a few days at most (delays are usually due to trying to work around the customer's schedule/downtime/reboot concerns). I don't know if maybe we're getting some different department because we're a Gold/Silver partner though. We just call the critical systems down line. [–] stonetear

Sanity check: Virtualising all servers and buying a big SAN?
by [deleted] in sysadmin
19 points 4 years ago* I am wrapping up a project very similar to this right now (I am a consultant) for about 150 users, with a Dell blade server w/six blades and a 10 TB EqualLogic SAN for about 4045 VMs. While yes, it does make a lot of sense to be going into virtualization, it definitely will not be cheap. [–] stonetear
A few new ESX hosts, VMWare licensing, and a 46 TB SAN will be several of tens of thousands for sure, not to mention the implementation/labor costs and such. The project I described above was about $200k, though their hardware level was probably several steps up from what you need (the SAN alone was $70k because they wanted 10 TB and 10 GBit ethernet). This was the cost to them, not our cost from Dell (yay markup). Being a nonprofit, you should establish your nonprofit status with Dell (or vendor of choice) if you haven't already, as you can get discounts and sales tax waived. However, for an organization of your size, and assuming that your org relies heavily on your IT assets to function daily, these sorts of things need to be part of your budget. How old is the current environment? The biggest advantage to going to VMs is being able to spin up new servers on the fly whenever you want, allocate storage as you see fit, etc. It's incredibly flexible. Also, the Physical to Virtual (P2V) process for VMWare is pretty painless. You run the converter to suck in the physical server to ESX, shut off the old server, fire up the new VM copy, set your networking up, and done. permalink

Migrating Exchange 2007 on Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2.
by nelsonmandela in sysadmin 1 point 4 years ago If you are using at least Outlook 2007, you should not experience much in the way of enduser issues during the move. The mailbox is still accessible during the migration, and when it completes, there's even a prompt from Outlook (if the user is actively in it at the time) that says something along the lines of the administrator has made changes to your mailbox that require you to restart Outlook. Then, when they do, it's all smart enough to reconnect them to the mailbox on the new server name (while not having to create a new profile or anything). Pretty slick in that department. [–] stonetear
Bearing that in mind though, mailbox moves are definitely slow. I did a 2003 to 2010 migration recently, both relatively new servers, gigabit LAN etc, and it took over a full day to move all their mailboxes, and that was only about 175 GB. permalink

Migrating Exchange 2007 on Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2.
by nelsonmandela in sysadmin 1 point 4 years ago Are you planning on bringing up a new server in the same org, or do you guys absolutely need to have the same server name? [–] stonetear
I think it'd be far easier to bring up the new 2008 R2 server with Exchange in the same Org, and then just move the mailboxes from the old server to the new server with the GUI/PowerShell. No exports, PSTs, etc. 500 GB of mailbox data is going to take a long time to move, regardless of what method you use. Goddamn jet database sluggishness. I can't wait for SQLbased Exchange. permalink

Build v. buy
by sirstan in sysadmin [–] stonetear 3 points 5 years ago
If money is not an issue, I really can't stress enough how critical that warranty/support can be in a disaster situation. Dell will have a part/drive at your door in 4 hours or less. I've had them show up as quickly as 45 minutes in the past. Having someone to fall back on (Dell Enterprise support or Gold support) when shit is going down is worth the cost alone. I've also had great experiences with IBM's business level support. Can't say much about HP one way or another. permalink

Exchange Database Recovery Issues
by Skyline969 in sysadmin 1 point 5 years ago For what it's worth, if you run out of options, we had great results with this tool at a customer who lost their entire domain. It can pull peruser PST files out of the raw EDB file. http://www.stellarinfo.com/emailrepair/edbpst converter.php [–] stonetear
They have another tool on the same site that purports to repair EDB files in any state of corruption. Haven't used that one personally, but if it's of the same quality as the other tool, it may be worth a shot if your DB is corrupt (though you are seeming to indicate that it's not) permalink

Any 5 string players in the house?
by lkjasdflkjasdf in Bass 2 points 5 years ago I'm a bass newbie, just went from my starter generic 4string to an Ibanez SR405QM. My biggest challenge so far has been some hand/string confusion since you have less space between strings (my starter 4string has the same neck width as the 5string Ibanez), and muting in general, which I tend to have issues with overall. That being said, I LOVE this bass, and I'm definitely loving the extra B string. I'm sure these other issues will go away after a few more weeks of getting used to it. [–] stonetear
