High School 5th Period Band General Guidelines As we enter the beginning of a new school year, there are numerous rules and procedures that will allow for effective and productive rehearsals. The following information is for your benefit: Rehearsal Rules and Guidelines: During school, Monday-Friday, 5th period and ET/EH  NO ONE IS PERMITTED TO BE IN THE BAND ROOM DURING LUNCH. This is a school rule and will be enforced. The stage and all other areas outside of the cafeteria are also off limits.  Look at the schedule posted for that day’s plan, get your instrument out and be seated and ready to go within 1 ½ minutes from the second bell (12:05pm).  During marching band season, students who are in marching band will be rehearsing outside (weather permitting) while concert band only students will be notified of their location for rehearsal. Please pay attention to the agenda posted on the door to the band room and in the instrument storage room. You will have 3 minutes to be outside on the practice field in your warm up group.  Please do not play when you are getting your instrument out. We will warm up together as a band.  NO GUM, FOOD OR DRINKS (other than water) ARE ALLOWED IN THE BAND ROOM!  Cell phones are to be OFF and CONCEALED and are NOT TO BE USED during class.  If someone has a cell phone out during rehearsal, it will be taken from you. The first time it happens, it will sit on Ms. Schleman’s desk until the end of the class period. If it happens again, it will be taken to Mr. Gebhardt.  When a director has his or her hands raised to begin a piece, you need to have your instrument in playing position and ready to play (stop talking).  As soon as an exercise/piece/excerpt is finished, please allow for THREE SECONDS of silence before making conversation. The director may want to address something – you need to give him or her opportunity to do so.  Check the ET/EH list to see if you are requested by another teacher.  You must have permission from Ms. Schleman to leave the band room during ET/EH if you are not assigned to another teacher.  You may not be in an area that is unsupervised during ET/EH. This includes the stage, hallways, and the choir room.  Please keep the band room clean! Do not leave your music on stands or on the floor or leave clothing in the band room. We will donate to Goodwill any misplaced articles of clothing that have not been claimed by Friday of each week, so pay attention!

The Band Office Rules:  First and most importantly, remember that the band office is Ms. Schleman’s, NOT YOURS. I want you to feel comfortable coming in, but sometimes I need a little space to keep sane.  Please DO NOT sit at Ms. Schleman’s desk OR use the computer!  Please do not touch or read anything on the desk!  NO FOOD OR DRINK IN THE OFFICE!  Please make sure you have a LEGITIMATE pass from whatever class you came from. We will limit the number of students who are permitted in the band room/office each period.  Do not use your cell phone in the band office—SCHOOL RULE!  DO NOT ANSWER THE PHONE WITHOUT PERMISSION.  Please do not store ANYTHING in the office, including your instrument unless it is broken—that’s why lockers are assigned to you!

You WILL receive a grade for attending! Each game is worth 10 points, for a total of 60 points. You will earn extra credit and other incentives if you attend more than your required 6 games. *I realize that the winter months are filled with many extra-curricular activities, and will excuse those who have conflicts as long as you let me know before the basketball season begins in November. *This is the tentative schedule so far – I will assign bands (A or B) and their specific games at the beginning of November:            
