Bohlen Technical Center 20104 NYS Route 3 Watertown, NY 13601 Ph. # 779-7200 Course Description: The primary purpose of the Cosmetology program is to train the student in the basic manipulative skills, safety judgments, proper work habits and desirable attitudes necessary to achieve competency in the workforce. Upon completion, students may obtain New York State Licensure, and gainful employment in the field of Cosmetology or related career fields. Timeline: Length of course/program: 2 year -half day 1000 Required Hours by completion of Course Additional -Tuesday night Classes 3:00-6:00 pm Summer school- 1 week in June after both the Junior and Senior year Major projects: 1st Year -Junior Presentations, Junior Portfolio, Haircutting Project 2nd Year- Salon Business Plan, Senior Portfolio, Internship, Public Clinic Grading/ Assessments Knowledge 40% (Classroom activities and assignments, daily instruction, homework, tests) Work Ethic 30% (Includes daily attendance, which is required) Skills 30% (Skills are graded in a practical form during live work or projects) Dress Code Requirements: Cosmetology students are required, according to NYS Practical Exam, to wear closed toed, closed heel shoes that cover entire foot, a smock that will be provided and black polyester pants.

5-Packages of index cards Marble composition journal book 1-Medium combination lock for locker 1-Small combination lock for Cosmetology kit 1-Pair of black dress pants (polyester) Comfortable shoes that cover the entire foot $5.00 for name embroidery on smock/ lab coat Licensing and Certificates: Upon completion of the 2 year program students will be eligible for: • Technical Endorsement • NYS Appearance and Enhancement license Articulation Agreements: • Bryant and Stratton College- Business Electives 3 credits • North Country Community College-Business Elective 3 credits -Science Elective 3 credits Internships: In the spring of their senior year, students who meet specific criteria will have the opportunity to experience an internship in Cosmetology and/or in a field related industry. Course Objectives: To ensure continued career success, the graduate will continue to learn new and current information related to skills, trends, and methods for career development in Cosmetology related fields. Students will be able to: 1. 2. 3.

Apply academic learning and practical experiences learned in Cosmetology field for college or career readiness. Available CTE credits: • Up to 4 CTE credits per year • Career and Financial Management • English • Science Classroom Management Plan/Classroom Policies: Refer to Code of Conduct- Student Handbook Late Work Policy Students must complete a Student Absence Form within 5 days of an absence to be eligible for late/ make-up work (Refer to Student Handbook). Extended absences will be handled on an individual basis.
