Costa Magoulas, CEC, CCE, CCA, AAC, Named 2017 National Chef Educator of the Year by the American Culinary Federation St. Augustine, Fla., July 26, 2017—Costa Magoulas, CEC, CCE, CCA, AAC, dean, Mori Hosseini College of Hospitality and Culinary Management, Daytona State College, Daytona Beach, Florida, received the American Culinary Federation (ACF) 2017 Chef Educator of the Year Award at Cook. Craft. Create. ACF National Convention & Show held in Orlando, Florida, July 9-13. “Being a chef is a pure and noble profession,” said Magoulas. “Pure because we receive our satisfaction from pleasing others; noble because we touch the lives of people in a positive way with food that can last a lifetime. I have the greatest job in the world teaching young culinarians to pass that special gift on to others.” The ACF Chef Educator of the Year award, established in 1998, pays tribute to an active culinary educator whose knowledge, skills and expertise have enhanced the image of the professional chef, and who, by example, has given leadership, guidance and direction to students seeking a career in the culinary profession. This person demonstrates the ability to help students define and develop their careers by using their skills and abilities to provide a strong foundation for their future success. First, colleagues nominated chef educators for the regional award. Then, from the four ACF regional winners, a selection committee made up of past national winners chose a national recipient. Magoulas has over 45 years of experience as an educator and culinary professional, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Chefs. He is the recipient of numerous awards recognizing his dedication to culinary education, including the ACF President’s Medallion and the Florida Hospitality Pineapple Award from the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association for outstanding contributions to student education. He has travelled to Guatemala City on two separate occasions with the Eastern Orthodox Christians Missionary to work at a children’s orphanage to teach healthy cooking to the staff.
