Kuala Lumpur – Aug 6, 2014. CCM Youth today announced the extension of its humanitarian aid efforts to include Syria and Iraq, which were among some of the most critical nations in the Middle East and Northern Africa facing unprecedented humanitarian crises in need of urgent global assistance. CCM Youth had earlier made an appeal to help Palestinian families and children through its “Gaza Children’s Relief Initiative” on July 28, 2014, to bring tangible assistance to overcome shortages of essential supplies and to provide emergency aid, including food, milk, medicines, shelter and bedding, and fuel for electricity. Consequently, to cope with the additional funding logistics due to the inclusion of Syria and Iraq, CCM Youth also announced the streamlining of all donations received, including that of “Gaza Children’s Relief Initiative”, by channeling directly to the Malaysian office of Open Doors International, i.e., Open Doors Malaysia. This would allow CCM Youth to leverage on the Christian organisation’s established operations, its wide networks, and its up-to-date on-the-ground information, to expedite the efficient disbursement of funds. CCM Youth believed that this would be the first of many channels that can be opened up to allow for quick on-the-ground intervention, without the unnecessary delay caused by the double handling of funds and bottlenecks.

CCM Youth hoped that more Malaysians, especially young people, would come to the aid of the people of Syria and Iraq as well, which were facing equally desperate situations, given the unrelenting violence and chaos that had resulted in catastrophic displacements, severe destruction, and systematic persecution and deaths of its citizens and religious minorities. CCM Youth would endeavour to help relay and assist in mobilising aid to similarly urgent situations that arise, by providing links to various organisations already at work in the affected countries or situations. In addition, CCM Youth urged all churches in Malaysia to continue praying for a sustainable just peace throughout the Middle East and North Africa, for dignity for its peoples, and an end to the persecution of religious minority groups.
