RESEARCH INTERESTS: Cell wall polymers. Hemicellulases. Bioenergy. Bioactive components and nutrition RESEARCH FOCUS: My area of research is focused on plant cell wall polymers and their importance in bioenergy and as bioactive components. Either to modify or deconstruct the cell wall, a detailed knowledge on the structure and composition of the wall components is needed. The recalcitrance of the lignocellulose plays a vital role in determining the biofuel yield. Plant cell wall composition is species, tissue/cell specific and depends on environmental conditions, all having impacts on biofuel production. A detailed information will be obtained by screening some of the potential feedstocks in India which will be useful for the enhanced biofuel production. Special emphasis will be given for deacetylation and deferuloylation and optimizing the pretreatment processes. I am also interested to look at the key roles of the cell wall polymers in human nutrition EDUCATION 2003-2008
