Please make sure you take a hat, good enclosed walking shoes and a water bottle. ITINERARY Meals as indicated B = Full Cooked Breakfast, L = Lunch, D = Dinner Day 1 Fri Aug 18 D Your tour begins with a transfer to Brisbane Airport where our staff will be there to assist with your check-in. Upon arrival into tropical Darwin, enjoy a short town tour prior to strolling through the Smith Street Mall, taking time to purchase your own lunch. This afternoon visit The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, overlooking Fannie Bay in Darwin Harbour. The museum features the history, science and visual art of the region and its people, housing what is regarded as some of the best Aboriginal paintings and artefacts in the world. The complex also features the experience and aftermath of Cyclone Tracy. Late afternoon we will check into the Doubletree By Hilton Esplanade, Darwin (Ph 08 8980 0800). This evening, enjoy a spectacular dinner cruise and as the sun sets, watch the sky light up in magical colours reflecting off the water and showcasing the tropical coastline of Darwin; a real highlight!

Day 2 Sat Aug 19 BLD As we travel south along the Stuart Highway to Litchfield National Park, you’ll have the opportunity to soak up the natural surroundings of the Top End and perhaps take a swim at the Wangi Falls - so don’t forget your swimwear. We’ll make our way to the small settlement of Adelaide River, which was the location for 30,000 Australian and American Soldiers in World War II. Stop for lunch at Adelaide River Inn, surrounded by lush tropical gardens, shady trees and well manicured lawns. You may even come across one famous local residing at the bar - the not so talkative “Charlie” the Buffalo, made famous by Mick Dundee (Paul Hogan). Following lunch, continue on via Pine Creek, which first came to prominence during the building of the Overland Telegraph Line. Check-in to the Ibis Styles, Katherine (Ph 08 8972 1744) for our overnight stay.

Day 3 Sun Aug 20 BLD A very early start is required this morning as you prepare to cross the border to Western Australia. A break in the journey at Victoria River Roadhouse allows opportunity for you to purchase your own morning tea before continuing on to lunch at Timber Creek. The Gregory Tree Reserve is famous as the site where Augustus Gregory supposedly made camp when his boat was wrecked during his North Australia Expedition in 1855. It was believed that Gregory called it "Timber Creek" after cutting down timber to fix his boat. Settle in for the next 2 nights at Kununurra's Lakeside Resort (Ph 08 9169 1092).

Day 4 Mon Aug 21 BLD Before breakfast, enjoy a 2 hour flight over the Bungle Bungles, Argyle Diamond Mine and Lake Argyle. From an aircraft it is an imposing sight to see the fascinating geological landscape of this remote region. Return to the motel for a late breakfast before visiting the Zebra Rock Gallery. Lunch will be served at Lake Argyle Resort before cruising from Lake Argyle to Kununurra along the Ord River. Rich in wildlife and flora and with some of the most awe-inspiring scenery imaginable, this will certainly top off a splendid day of touring.

Day 5 Tue Aug 22 BLD A very exciting day is ahead with a visit to the Argyle Diamond Mine. Please note that closed-in footwear must be worn today. This is a high security area and we are grateful for the opportunity to have a guided tour aboard our coach. The Argyle Diamond Mine is the world’s largest supplier of diamonds and they are found in a range of colours, including white, champagne and their signature pink stone. Be tempted to indulge yourself when you visit the village store. See the various diamond extraction and processing stages and experience mine life with lunch at the mine workers mess. After lunch, we’ll travel through rugged countryside to Halls Creek in the heart of the Kimberley, on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert. Halls Creek was the site of the first gold find in Western Australia and you have the opportunity to visit the ruins of the original township. Another eye opener is the China Wall - a natural white stone wall of sub-vertical quartz, looking just like a miniature ‘Great Wall of China’. Stay overnight at the Kimberley Halls Creek Hotel/Motel (Ph 08 9168 6101).

Day 6 Wed Aug 23 BLD After breakfast, our journey takes us to Fitzroy River Lodge, situated on the banks of the mighty Fitzroy River. Take time to relax within acres of natural bush with shady trees and landscaped gardens whilst enjoying lunch. This afternoon we’ll enjoy a cruise through Geikie Gorge, located in the majestic Napier Ranges. Take a walk along the banks of this beautiful waterway and learn of its fascinating history and view its distinct colourful walls scattered with ancient fossils, abundant wildlife and become immersed in its amazing scenery. Suitable clothing for protection from the sun is needed, as are good walking shoes, a hat and water bottle. The rugged wilderness continues through to Derby which is a rich pastoral and mineral centre situated beside the waters of King Sound. The highest tide fluctuations 11m (36 feet) of any Australian port occur here. Arrive later than usual today in Derby for our overnight stay at the King Sound Resort Hotel (Ph 08 9193 1044).

Day 7 Thu Aug 24 BLD Leave Derby behind and traverse the Great Northern Highway, passing the Prison Boab Tree, huge termite mounds and the Curtain Air Base. Stop for lunch at Roebuck Plains Roadhouse before continuing on to Broome for a visit to the Malcolm Douglas Wilderness Wildlife Park where you will enter through the jaws of a giant saltwater crocodile. Later, we will settle in for the next 3 nights at the Mercure Broome (Ph 08 9195 5900). This evening, there will be opportunity for a sunset camel ride along Cable Beach. Option 1: Enjoy a 1 hour sunset camel ride along Cable Beach. (Please note that passengers must weigh less than 90kg.) (Prices on optional activities will be finalised and advised in writing prior to progress payment due date. All option bookings will be taken at this time. We recommend that all options are booked and paid for as soon as possible after this time as they will be subject to availability and minimum numbers being met.)

Day 8 Fri Aug 25 BD There is plenty to do in and around Broome and the next 2 days offer time to do optional tours and/or enjoy free time to visit the many attractions. Option 1: A half day tour to Willie Creek Pearl Farm is certainly an eye-opener and a sure way to have all your questions about pearls answered. Total duration of tour – 4 hrs. Option 2: Scenic and Prehistoric Hovercraft Tour. Take a scenic and prehistoric tour of the many curious sights along the Broome town coastline. Be amazed by the history that hides on our ocean floor. Total duration of tour – 1 hr. Option 3: Full day 4WD Cape Leveque and Aboriginal Communities Adventure. Spend time exploring the beaches of Kooljaman at Cape Leveque before a late afternoon arrival back to your motel. Total duration of tour - 12 hrs. (Prices on optional activities will be finalised and advised in writing prior to progress payment due date. All option bookings will be taken at this time. We recommend that all options are booked and paid for as soon as possible after this time as they will be subject to availability and minimum numbers being met.)

Day 9 Sat Aug 26 BD Today offers another opportunity for optional tours and free time. Option 1: Buccaneer Explorer & Horizontal Waterfalls Air tour with Cape Leveque stopover. After take-off, fly over Broome and Cable Beach heading north across the Dampier Peninsula and King Sound to the Horizontal Waterfalls. This natural phenomenon, created by one of the highest tides in the world, flows in a white-water plume through two narrow openings. Circle this area in both directions allowing photo opportunities. Next is Talbot Bay Pearl Farm and then on to the hundreds of deserted islands of the Buccaneer Archipelago, flying over the famous open-cut iron-ore mines at the Koolan and Cockatoo Islands. Landing at Cape Leveque, enjoy refreshments overlooking the Indian Ocean. With access to beach facilities, a swim in the sheltered waters of the bay is a refreshing treat for passengers. The flight back to Broome is along the many bays and beaches of the Dampier Peninsula's west coast, including Willie Creek and the famous Cable Beach. Total duration of tour – 5 hrs (Flying time 2hrs 40 min)

Option 2: Scenic & Prehistoric Hovercraft Tour. Take a scenic and prehistoric tour of the many curious sights along the Broome town coastline. Be amazed by the history that hides on our ocean floor.
