After dinner speech by
Qonita Rachmah
It was an honor for 12th SEANLP participants to be able to listen the experience of two expertise in nutrition field related to their leadership experience. Prof. Hardinsyah, MS, a leader for several national organizations in Indonesia- AIPGI and PERGIZI PANGAN Indonesia – had shared that his leadership was started since he was kid; he elected to become a chief of the class since grade 1 to 6 – then chief of student organization – also a chief of International student organization in Australia (PPIA – Queensland). He thought that it was coming out due to his “confident and credibility”. Those two points are important to be an effective leader. He also shared how to rung several ‘big organization’ in the same time is that he doesn’t feel alone- he always make his followers understand what he wanted to achieve then lead them to achieve the same goals. Our second expertise, Dr Elvina Karyadi, the country manager at Micronutrient Initiative; also shared her experiencethat she learnt a leadership concept first from her family member- her mother father and two brothers. She thought that under her conscious, it is somehow shape her to become a better leader. Also, she shared how she started her medical school, then continue her master right after, afterwards starting her career in SEAMEO then moving to Micronutrient Initiative. Even tough it takes quite long time to build MI at first (3 years, more or less); but she believes that someday someone will see her work and she keep doing what she has to do to achieve the goal. So, the point is that focusing on the goal, enjoy the process, believe in herself that she can do, no turning back, are major keys as a leader.
