District 219 Board of Education Communications Committee Meeting Minutes July 15, 2015 Present: Linda Lampert, Chair Brian Novak Jim Szczepaniak Rosamin Bhanpuri Daphne Watson The meeting was called to order by Chair Linda Lampert at 9:30 a.m.. Approval of Minutes The committee approved the minutes of the June 24 meeting. Website Discussion  Members reviewed several websites of nearby high school districts for content, design, and ease of access to information.  Daphne indicated that any major changes to the website will require Board of Education directive so resources/manpower can be allocated. There are some functionality adjustments that can be made quickly.  The Information Services Department has been directed to investigate the feasibility of adding the search feature, which, in concept, can be done, and Daphne will report back on the progress of this at the next meeting. The IS web programmers’ time is allocated to other projects such as online registration, and other important summer projects in preparation of school opening in August and on other web-based initiatives that have been long-scheduled.  Daphne will report back on site user statistics regarding most frequented areas of the website, and what information users are looking for.  There are different areas of the website that are for public access and for internal use only. The committee will focus on recommending changes to make the public access areas of the website more user-friendly. Templates for online meeting information  Rosamin shared templates that can be recommended for use by all committees that report information on the Committees of the Board section of the D219 website, in order to give a more uniform look. She will bring back templates for Meeting Agendas, Meeting Notices, and Meeting Minutes to the August meeting for additional review.

Social Media Platform  The committee will research other schools’ use of social media to determine how much D219 should be using. Jim Szczepaniak will control whatever content goes out so it is consistent and expresses one voice on behalf of the District.
