DIVERSE LEARNERS – AGE LIMITATIONS Background The district is committed to providing high quality diverse learning programs, supports and services that will allow individual students with complex needs to maximize their learning and achievement within an optimal learning environment. Procedures 1. Consistent with Alberta Education mandates, the district will provide education for diverse learners who are at least five years, six months of age but less than twenty years old on September 1. 2. In doing so, the district has made a determination that it is not feasible or advisable to offer such programs within the framework of this district's continuum of programs and supports.

2.2

Where resident students of this district have been directed by administration to attend programs outside this district, the age limitation parameters of the outside agency or the maximum age of twenty, whichever is the lesser, shall apply.

3. As outlined in the School Act, parents/legal guardians have access to an appeal process in relation to their child’s instructional programming. This process, outlined in the district Administrative Procedure 390 - Student Placement Appeals must be provided to parents/legal guardians when they indicate dissatisfaction or concerns about the programming for their child.
