JOB ANNOUCEMENT 2.0 FTE Regional Fossil Distance Learning Program Educational Specialist. Fossil Distance Learning Program is a program within the Fossil Public Charter School in Fossil, Oregon. This charter school is the only school in Fossil School District 21J, located in Fossil, OR. The Fossil Distance Learning Program has been in existence for the last 7 years. This program has provided diverse educational opportunities to students all across the State of Oregon, as well as in the rural brick and mortar school in Fossil. The distance learning program is based on a hybrid distance education model wherein teachers conduct home visits to direct learning, host field trips/activities locally with their students, administer testing/assessments, monitor/evaluate student progress, guide and assist parents in their support of the students, and work with a collaborative team of teachers. Fossil Charter School contracts with Distance Learning Solutions, Inc. to administer and deliver the instructional and related services to students enrolled in the Fossil Distance Learning Program. For this position, Distance Learning Solutions, Inc. administrators are looking for candidates who have an elementary K-‐8 multiple subjects, self-‐contained license that lives in Oregon's Portland Metro area and in the Eugene/Springfield area. We are looking to fill a 1.0 FTE in each region. Many of the students on the current caseload will be located in these areas. We would prefer a candidate with experience with charter schools, online education, homeschooling, and elementary education. JOB DESCRIPTION Educational Specialist Job Definition: Under the general supervision of the Distance Learning Solutions, Inc. Directors, performs a variety of tasks with major responsibility being that of providing exceptional instructional related services for families and students that attend school from home. Reports to:
Executive Directors of Distance Learning Solutions, Inc.
Job Characteristics: Instructional related services shall include skill development, the expansion of knowledge and developing the ability to reason. Responsibilities include supervision, guidance, discipline, and safety of students. The use of independent judgement and decision making is required in many matters not having established rules, regulations, policies or precedent. Essential Functions: 1.
Identifies the needs of individual families and students by continuous assessment of their abilities.
2.
Uses identified student needs to plan instructional services.
3.
Prepares and writes instructional plans.
4.
Uses a variety of appropriate methods and materials to implement instructional plans.
5.
Organizes and manages student activities.
6.
Applies learning theories to meet the needs of students.
7.
Evaluates and reports student progress.
8. Initiates, plans, and carries out regular and required parent/student meetings in person or via technology platforms. 9.
Initiates and maintains communication with parents and colleagues.
Other Functions: 1.
Participates in in-service and professional development activities.
2.
Assists in the assessment of program students and the planning required to meet those needs.
3.
Attends meetings and serves on committees as assigned or directed (or if individual volunteers).

Salary and Benefits: DOE 1. Typical salary range is between $50,000 and 60,000. 2. Distance Learning Solutions, Inc. Will pay 100% family premium for family Major Medical, Dental, and Vision. 3. Distance Learning Solutions, Inc. is not a PERS employer but does contribute a % of salary to Individual IRA. Physical Requirements: Working closely with students can be both physically and emotionally tiring. Teachers spend much of their time traveling to student homes, often bending and kneeling to be at eye level with children. May be stressful for those who deal with unmotivated and disrespectful students. May require exposure to adverse weather conditions and noisy work areas. Special education teachers may be exposed to such job hazards as biting, kicking, etc. 1.
