Motion “E” ‘Move that the Board of Directors charge the Bylaws Committee, in consultation with the leadership of the IDP Member Section, to develop by law amendments that establish a position on the Board of Directors to represent RID members who were raised by a Deaf parent or Deaf parents, together with appropriate qualifications and duties for this position.” Chair’s Report: Suzanne Nace stated, the By Laws Committee is charged with creating bylaws amendments to the RID membership for a vote no later than December 15th, 2012 but no earlier than the conclusion of all the 2012 Regional Conferences. As a result of her contact with the national Board of Directors they stated the committee will not do this until after the regional conferences. The By law Committee member, Lucy James confirmed she has not heard anything from the nation BOD on this. Therefore, the needs or support for this measure is unknown at this time. ‘What can we, IDP, do at this time?’ This being stated, Suzanne and the Council began a discussion on a plan the IDP Member Section will take to support Motion ‘E’. Although IDP will not receive the specifics as to these amendments; no itemized list in ‘black and white’ of directives of the amendments to come, Suzanne received suggestions from the Council to include an article in the ‘Views’, RID, Inc. RID E‐news, an outreach of ‘heads up’ informational sharing among the membership through the IDP region list serve, discussions to be held at the regional conferences upcoming this year during the Members Section meetings and at the Exhibit Booths was decided. ¾ Conference Conflicts The Chair received complaints on the topic of Conference Scheduling dates. She spoke to Dawn Bolduc, Secretary, Lewis Merkin, Member at Large, both of the national BOD and Ryan Butts at the national office. The issue of the CODA conference held in Miami, Florida, the RID, Regional II Conference in Ft. Questions, concerns and issues were expressed from the Council. Suzanne will be in telephone contact with the national office next week on this matter. Although the schedules cannot be changed for this 2012 year, the goal is to have future scheduling of conferences to be created without conflicts between regions as well as other organizations our Council and constituency plan to attend. Perhaps a letter of apology is in order was suggested. ¾ Member Sections Procedural Manual The national office is in the planning stages of streamlining the procedures of working/dealing with the Member Sections. Our IDP Council Chair, Suzanne, as well as the other Member Sections Chairs, received a request to assist in creating a handbook/outline for member sections. This request follows an outline of categories on which to report the present procedures IDP uses, requires or needs support on. When this Manual is developed, it will become the basis of how the national office works with members sections. Some expressed concern in the fact that all of the Member’s Sections are unique in their goals and missions. Additionally the Council felt it was important to have people knowledgeable of the historical operations of this member section to be included in the reporting to the national office. During the discussion, it was suggested for the Council President to make a contact/inquiry with the IDP council and maybe create a Members Section Yahoo Groups to receive feed back on development of this Manual. Some topics on the handbook/outline are: Training, Goals, Meetings, Social Media, Budgeting, Fundraising, Conferences, etc. Suzanne, along with Laurie Nash, Vice Chair will work on this matter. along with the other leaders of the other member sections and the national BOD. The Council felt support in the area of national and regional conferences is much needed as well as finances. With Laurie’s vast years of experience in working as an IDP Council Chair, now Vice Chair will be beneficial to our IDP Members Section’s response to this questionnaire. More information will follow on this topic. ¾ Treasury Report: Amy Williamson, Treasurer, running a training session in Kansas sent her report and the chair read as follows: “The IDP Balance is as of 1/31/12 is $4,398.63. There was a deposit of $13.00 perhaps a donation and $39.58 for conference call and $150.00 for Camp Mark ‘7’ deposit for the IDP/DC Reframing Session. All funds for the IDP/DC Reframing Session are being handled by Vermont RID. When the account settles after this event, IDP will take care of monies left to be divided between DC and IDP. Then, it will be deposited into the Deaf Caucus and IDP RID Accounts. “ A discussion was held in regards to the balance and an avenue to do some type of fundraising for IDP. It was decided an Outreach’ Flyer to the IDP Regional Members suggesting/requesting support during the upcoming RID membership renewal in June to be created and sent. Finally, it was suggested by the Chair, if a Council Member needs financial support to attend their Regional Conference, to send Amy a request. ¾ Secretary Report After receiving the updated RID IDP Members Section List, Karen Lefebvre, edited the list into regions, then states in order to assist the Regional Reps with their outreach to the members in their area.
