CORPUS CHRISTI CATHOLIC CHURCH

"He withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself." In the midst of his own sorrow at the murder of his cousin and   friend, John the Baptist, Jesus had wanted to be alone. We can   imagine how he might have been dealing with his sadness,  perhaps shedding some tears and most likely praying to his  Father in heaven.   Yet his privacy was not respected at this difficult moment.   Instead, a crowd of more than five thousand people found out   where he was and "followed him on foot from their towns."  Anyone else might have been annoyed in this situation. But  Jesus was compassionate. Rather than wallowing in his own  emotion, he thought of the men, women, and children who had  made the journey to this remote location to be near him. "His heart was moved with pity for them, and he cured their sick."     Imagine the sick people who came to see Jesus. Imagine  their hopes, their expectations, and the sacrifices they made to be  in his presence. Jesus understood all of this. His emotions turned their direction now as the sight of them touched his heart. And  in he cured them. And then, he fed them. Not only those who were  sick, but all those present. First, the miracles of healing. Then,  the miracle of multiplying the loaves and fish. What an  experience it must have been to be among this crowd!   This Jesus of compassion and healing, this Jesus who  provided for his people until they "were satisfied," this is our  Jesus too. His sacred heart is also moved by seeing us, by  recognizing our weaknesses, hopes, and desires. Jesus remains  the same. He is willing and able to satisfy our deepest needs. The is whether we, like the crowd that day, will make the  question journey to find him.     The Sanctuary Lamp in the Reservation Chapel is lit   for the deceased members of the     Corpus Christi Community   HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION

AUGUST 3, 2014

Readings for This Weekend: August 3, 2014     First Reading:   Isaiah 55:1-3     Second Reading:   Romans 8:35, 37-39     Gospel Reading:   Matthew 14:13-21   The disciples said to Jesus: “Five loaves and two fish are   all we have here.” Jesus said to them: “Bring them here to me.”   He blessed them, broke them, and gave them to the disciples,   who passed the pieces out to the crowd – 5,000 men, plus women and children. Jesus blessed the five loaves and two fish, returning   enough food to the disciples to feed the crowd, with some pieces   left over. In life, we need to always recognize that it is not the   meager resources we have that count, but what Jesus can do with   these resources when we give all we have to him. God gives us abundance now to enrich our discipleship so that we may enjoy   everlasting life with him in eternity.     Adults: What has God given you in abundance that you are able   to share with others?   Youth: What do you have from God that you share with others?     Readings for Next Weekend: August 10, 2014

NEW ORDINARY TIME BANNER   The women of the Environment Ministry have created a new banner for Ordinary Time. The inspiration for the banner came from Psalm 141, verse 2: “Let my prayer rise as incense in thy sight; the lifting up of my hands, like the evening sacrifice.” The Liturgical color for Ordinary time is green. Green is a symbol for hope, growth and new life. In Christian tradition, green came to symbolize the life of the church following Pentacost, as well as symbolizing the hope of new life in the Resurrection. Each set of hands represents the ethnic diversity of our parish community. The three panels recall the symbolism of the Trinity. We hope you will find that this banner enhances our liturgical environment.

Books for Troops wishes to sincerely thank you for your generous donation of Bibles. When I received several requests from the troops in both the VA hospitals and deployed in warzones, primarily Afghanistan, I felt there weren’t people who needed the comfort and wisdom that only the Bible could offer more than these troops. Your parish, as in several times in the past, once again rose to the challenge and was able to provide a large number of these Bibles to send to our very needy troops. For every Bible sent there will be countless service men and women benefiting from its use, since the troops share everything they receive. The Bibles also will represent to the troops the knowledge that many caring people understand and want to support their very human need for comfort, acknowledgement, and care. This message in whatever form it takes: Bibles, books, candy, puzzle books, comics when received is their greatest morale guilder. Thank you for sending that message loudly and clearly with your gift of Bibles. In more ways than one you have given solace to their souls. Books for Troops cannot thank you enough for your compassion and for the consolation you have given the troops during their very difficult time so far from the familiar and so close to the threats to their lives. All of us at Books for Troops are very grateful for your support and belief in us. We could not continue our work if it were not for the continued support of parishes and parishioners like you. We thank you over and over again and hope to be able to continue to have your support in the future. Keep the troops in your hearts and prayers. God Bless you! Sincerely yours, Ellen R. Keegan, director Books for Troops is a 501 (c)(3) not-for profit organization registered with the NYS Charities Bureau (Tax ID #30-0704984).
