It’s early days yet in our scheme to raise money to help with our project in Gambella, but support is growing. The first supper was held by the Baileys on 5th October, to which eight people were invited. Since then, Sheila Shrigley, Julie Deane and John Paulding have held events, and the ball is rolling.
On Sunday 17th November we say our farewells to Revd Rosie and Andrew. They have been with us for just over three years and four months and will be much missed. Rosie’s contribution to our worship and community, and her leadership has been significant. The Nurture Group will miss her innovative input, the Mothers’ Union will move forwards greatly encouraged and all the other areas where she has been involved will be all the richer. Andrew has been a friendly member of our parish, having taken on the onerous role of PCC treasurer and contributed much to the life of the parish. Everyone is welcome to come and thank Rosie and wish her and Andrew all the very best for the future at their open house on Saturday 2nd November. Rosie and Andrew will move in the days after our Patronal Festival, All Saints' Sunday, but will return for the 17th when we will say our good-byes and give our best wishes formally.
For regular services—see overleaf.
Church Cleaning volunteers needed. Our beautiful church building will be 150 years old in 2014. Through the work of many devoted people during that time it has been kept clean and bright - an enhancement to worship. Each week teams of two or more cleaners undertake to vacuum, sweep and dust inside the building - a task taking less than two hours at a time suitable to them. However our teams have become depleted and we would welcome more members; male, female, young or old. A good way to start is by joining our big Christmas clean on Monday 16th December at 6.30pm - everyone welcome! If you are interested in joining the team please contact Julie Vobe on 01344 893189 or the Parish Office. Thank you.
Getting round the table with old or new friends is a great idea, and will not only generate funds to help the people of Gambella in Ethiopia, whose need for education, better health care and improved skills is the aim of our endeavours, but will also strengthen our social ties within our own church. Your ‘event’ does not need to be an elaborate dinner, even at this early stage we have enjoyed a variety of get-togethers including a breakfast and a tea, it’s your choice how you entertain your friends – cheese and wine or fish and chips is just fine. Lets get going and see what we can raise! So please sign up, if you have not already done so, and you will get an invitation; if you have already enjoyed hospitality under the scheme, please look at the lists at the back of All Saints’ Church and in King Edward’s Hall and invite those whose names have not yet been ticked off or just invite your friends from All Saints.
Christmas presents for Family Toy Service Our gift giving service is 1st December at 10.30. Our nominated charity is Homestart. Please donate a new wrapped gift with a label saying which gender/age it is suitable for and a brief description of what it is; the charity can then match each gift to individual children. Homestart are not allowed to give second hand toys to the children. Please help to continue this important outreach and give a present to a child who might not otherwise have one.
Messy Church meets at King Edwards Hall from 10:00 am on Saturday 30th November - see Ellen for details.
