Procedure: 1. Students will read Chapters 1-4 of “Bud, Not Buddy” by Christopher Paul Curtis. (Bud carries around with him a suitcase full of items that have sentimental value to him.) 2. Teacher will model and explain to students the difference between sentimental value and monetary value. 3. Students will make a text to self connection by making a list of 5 items that have sentimental value to them. 4. Students will then write the list of items on the suitcase template with an accompanying sentence explaining why the item has sentimental value to them.
