Deficit Mitigation, Juvenile Justice Reform and Voter Registration on CT-N Capitol Report: Week in Review

Hartford, CT – This Friday at 7 p.m., Connecticut Network viewers will recap a week where state leaders continued bipartisan budget talks and legislative committees discussed proposals related to juvenile justice reform, medical marijuana for children, teacher evaluations and voter registration on the latest episode of CT-N Capitol Report: Week in Review. Governor Dannel Malloy and legislative leaders met again this week for bipartisan budget talks and discussed their latest options to close the current budget deficit. There is a plan in place for the legislature to vote on a deficit mitigation bill in the coming days. The Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee heard testimony from Senate President Martin Looney on Tuesday, who is supporting three bills that concern innovation & economic growth, municipal property tax relief and tax proposals affecting Yale University in New Haven. Elsewhere at the Legislative Office Building, the Judiciary Committee held a public hearing on the Governor’s latest Second Chance Society proposals, which address juvenile justice and bail bond reform, and the Public Health Committee voted on bills dealing with medical marijuana for children and new requirements for prescribing opioids. Capitol Report will also review the Government Administration and Elections Committee’s votes on proposals dealing with voter registration, carbon footprint analysis and a state civic network – as well as a bill removing student’s SBAC scores from teacher evaluations, which was debated among members of the Education Committee. Capitol Report: Week in Review summarizes the activity at the State Capitol during the week, using voice over and graphics to combine history, context, and next steps in the process with full-length excerpts from the week’s proceedings. The program premieres on CT-N every Friday night at 7:00 p.m., then rebroadcasts at Noon and 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays, 8:00 p.m. on Sundays, and 6:00 a.m. Monday mornings; check CT-N’s online program schedule for additional airtimes.
