Congratulations on starting your study abroad journey! Planning for Education Abroad should start at least a year prior to departing, and it is important that you follow all steps carefully and in order. CSUMB Education Abroad offers 100+ amazing programs through our trusted partner universities. If you can't seem to find what you're looking for, consider checking out National Student Exchange or programs offered by our Affiliate Organizations by visiting csumb.edu/educationabroad. STEP 1.
RESEARCH YOUR OPTIONS
BEGIN PLANNING - 1 year in advance -

ATTEND EDUCATION ABROAD 101 Attend an Education Abroad 101 session.

STEP 3.
RESEARCH POTENTIAL COURSES Research courses at host university/program that could potentially fulfill your GE, GE electives, major, major electives, minor, and/or minor elective requirements. Make sure that host university/program offers enough courses for you to take at least 12 CSUMB credits per semester (approved by your Academic Advisor to count towards your degree) during your time abroad.
STEP 4.
TALK TO YOUR ACADEMIC ADVISOR Talk to your Academic Advisor about your top 3 university/program options, academic requirements that could be completed abroad, your graduation plan, etc.

STEP 5.
COMPLETE PRE-ADVISING FORM Complete a pre-advising form (this form will be sent to you after you attend a 101 session). You may also find it on our website csumb.edu/educationabroad/apply.
STEP 6.
TALK TO YOUR EDUCATION ABROAD COORDINATOR Attend any of the walk-in advising hours with the Education Abroad Coordinator (MWF, 10:30am-12:00pm or TTh, 2:00pm-4:00pm). You may also set up an appointment by emailing
[email protected]. Location: Gavilan Hall (Bldg 201) Suite 207 (2nd floor), Corner of 6th Ave & Inter-Garrison Rd.
Talk with your Education Abroad Coordinator and discuss any concerns, health or disabilities, that may require support while abroad. STEP 7.
COMPLETE PRE-ACCEPTANCE PHASE
CONGRATS! You have been approved to go abroad... Go to next phase!
Meet with Academic Advisor and get your Academic Approval Form signed. Complete and submit Education Abroad pre-acceptance application. Research flight options (don't buy until you are fully admitted to the program). Apply or renew your passport (must be valid at least 6 months past your return to the U.S.). Make sure your financial aid is in order, apply for scholarships, and budget for your semester abroad.

POST-ACCEPTANCE
STEP 8.

APPLY TO HOST UNIVERSITY/PROGRAM Complete and submit application to exchange partner university or CSUMB affiliate program. The sooner you complete your application, the sooner it can be processed and then you will receive the necessary documents for your visa application (if applicable), housing, etc.
STEP 9.
COMPLETE POST-ACCEPTANCE PHASE Upload CSUMB Health Clearance Form to Education Abroad post-acceptance application. Upload flight information to Education Abroad post-acceptance application. Confirm participation in Education Abroad program.
STEP 10.
ATTEND PRE-DEPARTURE ORIENTATION Attend the pre-departure orientation (mandatory). The session will take place in April for summer and fall programs and November for winter and spring programs.
STEP 11.
TRAVEL TO HOST UNIVERSITY/PROGRAM Pass your classes (take at least 12 CSUMB credits). Check in regularly with the CSUMB Office of International Programs. Have a great time and share your experience with us! #STUDYABROTTER
