★ What​ ​are​ ​class​ ​schedules​ ​like​ ​at​ ​Bunker​ ​Hill?

Bunker​ ​Hill​ ​operates​ ​on​ ​a​ ​traditional​ ​4-Block​ ​Schedule​ ​as​ ​a​ ​high​ ​school.​ ​ ​This​ ​means that​ ​students​ ​will​ ​have​ ​four​ ​(4)​ ​traditional​ ​classes​ ​each​ ​day​ ​that​ ​are​ ​no​ ​less​ ​than​ ​90 minutes​ ​in​ ​length.​ ​ ​The​ ​third​ ​period​ ​class​ ​may​ ​be​ ​longer​ ​than​ ​90​ ​minutes​ ​to accommodate​ ​the​ ​lunch​ ​schedule​ ​for​ ​students.​ ​ ​Students​ ​are​ ​expected​ ​to​ ​arrive​ ​in​ ​class prior​ ​to​ ​the​ ​bell​ ​ringing​ ​and​ ​be​ ​ready​ ​for​ ​instruction.​ ​ ​Students​ ​have​ ​approximately​ ​five (5)​ ​minutes​ ​for​ ​class​ ​changes​ ​with​ ​the​ ​exception​ ​of​ ​a​ ​10​ ​minute​ ​period​ ​between​ ​1st​ ​and 2nd​ ​periods.​ ​ ​Five​ ​minutes​ ​is​ ​more​ ​than​ ​adequate​ ​as​ ​long​ ​as​ ​students​ ​do​ ​not​ ​spend​ ​too much​ ​time​ ​socializing​ ​or​ ​wasting​ ​time​ ​going​ ​from​ ​one​ ​location​ ​on​ ​the​ ​campus​ ​to another.​ ​ ​School​ ​begins​ ​each​ ​day​ ​at​ ​8:05​ ​am​ ​and​ ​ends​ ​at​ ​3:15​ ​pm.

★ What​ ​are​ ​students​ ​expected​ ​to​ ​bring​ ​on​ ​the​ ​first​ ​day​ ​of​ ​school? On​ ​the​ ​first​ ​day​ ​of​ ​school​ ​every​ ​student​ ​will​ ​get​ ​a​ ​syllabus​ ​for​ ​their​ ​classes.​ ​ ​Various syllabi​ ​will​ ​provide​ ​guidance​ ​to​ ​students​ ​and​ ​parents​ ​on​ ​the​ ​items​ ​and​ ​materials​ ​that will​ ​be​ ​needed​ ​in​ ​each​ ​class.​ ​ ​Students​ ​should​ ​bring​ ​paper​ ​and/or​ ​a​ ​notebook, pens/pencils,​ ​or​ ​folder​ ​to​ ​keep​ ​up​ ​with​ ​information​ ​and​ ​handouts.​ ​ ​Students​ ​will​ ​be expected​ ​to​ ​take​ ​notes,​ ​collect​ ​information,​ ​and​ ​show​ ​up​ ​prepared​ ​to​ ​begin​ ​school​ ​for success. We​ ​will​ ​begin​ ​the​ ​first​ ​day​ ​by​ ​showing​ ​a​ ​video​ ​that​ ​discusses​ ​school​ ​expectations​ ​and procedures.​ ​ ​This​ ​information​ ​can​ ​be​ ​found​ ​on​ ​the​ ​school​ ​website​ ​for​ ​easy​ ​access​ ​for students​ ​and​ ​parents.

★ What​ ​is​ ​GPA​ ​and​ ​why​ ​is​ ​it​ ​important? GPA​ ​stands​ ​for​ ​Grade​ ​Point​ ​Average​ ​and​ ​is​ ​a​ ​number​ ​representing​ ​the​ ​average​ ​value​ ​of the​ ​accumulated​ ​final​ ​grades​ ​earned​ ​in​ ​courses​ ​over​ ​time.​ ​A​ ​student's​ ​grade​ ​point average​​ ​is​ ​calculated​ ​by​ ​adding​ ​up​ ​all​ ​accumulated​ ​final​ ​grades​ ​and​ ​dividing​ ​that figure​ ​by​ ​the​ ​number​ ​of​ ​grades​ ​awarded.​ ​ ​The​ ​most​ ​common​ ​form​ ​of​ ​GPA​ ​is​ ​based​ ​on a​ ​0​ ​to​ ​4.0​ ​scale​ ​(A​ ​=​ ​4.0,​ ​B​ ​=​ ​3.0,​ ​C​ ​=​ ​2.0,​ ​D​ ​=​ ​1.0,​ ​and​ ​F​ ​=​ ​0),​ ​with​ ​a​ ​4.0​ ​representing​ ​a “perfect”​ ​GPA—or​ ​a​ ​student​ ​having​ ​earned​ ​straight​ ​As​ ​in​ ​every​ ​course.​ ​ ​In​ ​some schools,​ ​weighted-grade​​ ​systems​ ​are​ ​used​ ​in​ ​GPA​ ​calculations,​ ​and​ ​they​ ​give​ ​students a​ ​numerical​ ​advantage​ ​for​ ​grades​ ​earned​ ​in​ ​higher-level​ ​courses,​ ​such​ ​as​ ​honors courses​​ ​or​ ​Advanced​ ​Placement​ ​courses,​ ​or​ ​for​ ​completing​ ​more​ ​challenging​ ​learning experiences.​ ​A​ ​student’s​ ​GPA​ ​is​ ​often​ ​used​ ​to​ ​determine​ ​academic​ ​honors,​ ​such​ ​as honor​ ​roll,​ ​class​ ​rank​,​ ​or​ ​Latin​ ​honors.​ ​GPAs​ ​have​ ​been​ ​one​ ​of​ ​several​ ​major​ ​factors

used​ ​by​ ​colleges,​ ​postsecondary​ ​programs,​ ​and​ ​employers​ ​to​ ​assess​ ​a​ ​student’s​ ​overall academic​ ​record.

★ What​ ​is​ ​the​ ​dress​ ​code​ ​at​ ​Bunker​ ​Hill? The​ ​student​ ​dress​ ​code​ ​is​ ​guided​ ​by​ ​the​ ​Catawba​ ​County​ ​Schools​ ​Board​ ​of​ ​Education Policy​ ​on​ ​Dress​ ​and​ ​Appearance​ ​(4.3600​ ​Code​ ​of​ ​Student​ ​Conduct).​ ​ ​The​ ​following items​ ​are​ ​forbidden​ ​by​ ​Board​ ​of​ ​Education​ ​and​ ​School​ ​Policy: ○ The​ ​creation​ ​of​ ​an​ ​appearance​ ​or​ ​the​ ​wearing​ ​of​ ​clothing​ ​or​ ​any​ ​other​ ​garment or​ ​item​ ​that​ ​is​ ​provocative,​ ​obscene,​ ​vulgar,​ ​indecent,​ ​sexually​ ​suggestive, lewd,​ ​transparent,​ ​profane,​ ​or​ ​which​ ​displays,​ ​suggests,​ ​promotes​ ​or​ ​reveals nudity,​ ​violence​ ​or​ ​an​ ​immoral,​ ​harassing,​ ​bullying,​ ​provocative,​ ​obscene, profane,​ ​indecent,​ ​lewd,​ ​vulgar,​ ​slanderous,​ ​libelous,​ ​intimidating,​ ​insulting, degrading,​ ​disrespectful,​ ​abusive,​ ​disruptive,​ ​unsafe,​ ​violent,​ ​sexually suggestive​ ​or​ ​sexual​ ​message​ ​through​ ​language,​ ​images​ ​and/or​ ​symbols ○ The​ ​wearing​ ​of​ ​hats,​ ​bandannas​ ​and​ ​headgear​ ​of​ ​any​ ​kind​ ​and​ ​any​ ​garment​ ​or item​ ​that​ ​covers​ ​the​ ​student’s​ ​face​ ​or​ ​conceals​ ​the​ ​student’s​ ​identity​ ​within​ ​any building​ ​except​ ​for​ ​established​ ​medical​ ​reasons ○ The​ ​wearing​ ​or​ ​removal​ ​of​ ​clothing​ ​in​ ​a​ ​manner​ ​that​ ​reveals,​ ​exposes​ ​or​ ​allows the​ ​following​ ​to​ ​be​ ​seen:​ ​undergarments,​ ​cleavage,​ ​bare​ ​midriffs​ ​or​ ​any​ ​private body​ ​part​ ​that​ ​is​ ​inappropriate​ ​for​ ​display​ ​in​ ​a​ ​school​ ​setting ○ The​ ​wearing​ ​of​ ​pants​ ​or​ ​shorts​ ​in​ ​such​ ​a​ ​manner​ ​that​ ​undergarments​ ​or​ ​private body​ ​parts​ ​are​ ​exposed,​ ​they​ ​drag​ ​on​ ​the​ ​floor,​ ​they​ ​sag​ ​below​ ​the​ ​waist​ ​or​ ​they are​ ​excessively​ ​baggy ○ The​ ​wearing​ ​of​ ​clothing​ ​or​ ​any​ ​other​ ​garment​ ​or​ ​item​ ​containing,​ ​advertising, naming,​ ​or​ ​referencing​ ​any​ ​alcoholic​ ​product,​ ​tobacco​ ​product,​ ​controlled substance,​ ​firearms​ ​or​ ​weapons ○ The​ ​wearing​ ​of​ ​chains,​ ​jewelry,​ ​including​ ​those​ ​that​ ​hang​ ​from​ ​wallets,​ ​studded collars​ ​or​ ​bracelets​ ​that​ ​may​ ​be​ ​used​ ​as​ ​a​ ​weapon,​ ​cause​ ​injury,​ ​hinder movement​ ​or​ ​are​ ​unsafe​ ​as​ ​declared​ ​by​ ​the​ ​principal ○ The​ ​wearing​ ​of​ ​dark​ ​glasses​ ​within​ ​any​ ​building​ ​except​ ​for​ ​established​ ​medical reasons ○ The​ ​failure​ ​to​ ​wear​ ​shoes​ ​or​ ​appropriate​ ​foot​ ​covering ○ The​ ​wearing​ ​of​ ​any​ ​clothing​ ​or​ ​any​ ​other​ ​garment​ ​or​ ​item​ ​in​ ​any​ ​manner​ ​or style​ ​or​ ​containing​ ​any​ ​symbol​ ​reflecting,​ ​promoting​ ​or​ ​associated​ ​with​ ​gangs, intimidation,​ ​violence​ ​or​ ​violent​ ​groups ○ The​ ​wearing​ ​of​ ​halters,​ ​spaghetti​ ​strapped​ ​tops,​ ​tank​ ​tops,​ ​tube​ ​tops,​ ​strapless tops,​ ​bras​ ​or​ ​undergarments​ ​outside​ ​of​ ​clothing,​ ​pajamas,​ ​lounge​ ​pants​ ​or bedroom​ ​shoes​ ​as​ ​well​ ​as​ ​shorts​ ​and​ ​skirts​ ​that​ ​the​ ​principal​ ​or​ ​his/her​ ​designee determines​ ​are​ ​too​ ​short ○ The​ ​creation​ ​of​ ​an​ ​appearance​ ​or​ ​the​ ​wearing​ ​of​ ​clothing​ ​or​ ​any​ ​other​ ​garment or​ ​item​ ​that​ ​is​ ​reasonably​ ​foreseeable​ ​to​ ​cause​ ​or,​ ​in​ ​fact,​ ​causes,​ ​a​ ​material​ ​or

substantial​ ​disruption​ ​or​ ​that​ ​is​ ​reasonably​ ​foreseeable​ ​to​ ​endanger​ ​or​ ​be detrimental​ ​or,​ ​in​ ​fact,​ ​is​ ​dangerous​ ​or​ ​detrimental​ ​to​ ​the​ ​health​ ​or​ ​safety​ ​of​ ​the student​ ​or​ ​others​ ​or​ ​that​ ​is​ ​reasonably​ ​foreseeable​ ​to​ ​cause​ ​a​ ​fight​ ​or,​ ​in​ ​fact, causes​ ​a​ ​fight​ ​or​ ​that​ ​creates​ ​or​ ​is​ ​likely​ ​to​ ​create​ ​a​ ​hostile​ ​learning​ ​environment ○ Any​ ​appearance,​ ​items,​ ​or​ ​other​ ​symbols​ ​that​ ​may​ ​be​ ​controversial​ ​in​ ​the school​ ​environment​ ​or​ ​may​ ​be​ ​reasonably​ ​foreseeable​ ​to​ ​cause​ ​a​ ​disruption are​ ​not​ ​permitted​ ​to​ ​be​ ​worn​ ​or​ ​displayed​ ​by​ ​students​ ​in​ ​any​ ​manner​ ​on school​ ​grounds​ ​or​ ​on​ ​vehicles​ ​while​ ​on​ ​school​ ​grounds​ ​or​ ​while​ ​attending any​ ​school​ ​sponsored​ ​event. At​ ​Bunker​ ​Hill​ ​we​ ​expect​ ​pants​ ​to​ ​be​ ​worn​ ​properly​ ​around​ ​the​ ​waste.​ ​ ​Saggy​ ​or​ ​baggy pants​ ​that​ ​drag​ ​or​ ​show​ ​one’s​ ​underwear​ ​is​ ​unacceptable.​ ​ ​Students​ ​wearing​ ​leggings​ ​or yoga​ ​pants​ ​are​ ​expected​ ​to​ ​cover​ ​their​ ​bottoms​ ​and​ ​private​ ​areas.​ ​ ​In​ ​addition,​ ​we​ ​ask that​ ​no​ ​cleaveage​ ​or​ ​sleaveless​ ​shirts​ ​be​ ​worn​ ​to​ ​school.​ ​ ​Let’s​ ​dress​ ​for​ ​success​ ​and prepare​ ​for​ ​the​ ​professional​ ​workforce​ ​that​ ​will​ ​be​ ​part​ ​of​ ​every​ ​graduates​ ​life​ ​in​ ​the future.

★ Who​ ​do​ ​students​ ​have​ ​classes​ ​with​ ​in​ ​high​ ​school? When​ ​students​ ​enter​ ​high​ ​school,​ ​classes​ ​may​ ​have​ ​a​ ​mixture​ ​of​ ​students​ ​from​ ​a​ ​variety of​ ​classes.​ ​ ​There​ ​are​ ​classes​ ​that​ ​may​ ​contain​ ​a​ ​majority​ ​of​ ​freshman​ ​students​ ​or​ ​other class​ ​majorities​ ​simply​ ​because​ ​the​ ​sequencing​ ​of​ ​courses​ ​as​ ​students​ ​travel​ ​through each​ ​year​ ​of​ ​high​ ​school.​ ​ ​It​ ​is​ ​not​ ​uncommon​ ​for​ ​students​ ​taking​ ​elective​ ​classes​ ​to​ ​be in​ ​classes​ ​with​ ​students​ ​from​ ​every​ ​level​ ​of​ ​class​ ​from​ ​freshman​ ​to​ ​senior​ ​level.​ ​ ​This​ ​is normal​ ​and​ ​a​ ​great​ ​opportunity​ ​for​ ​students​ ​to​ ​meet​ ​new​ ​people,​ ​collaborate,​ ​and​ ​build school​ ​spirit.

★ What​ ​is​ ​lunch​ ​like​ ​at​ ​Bunker​ ​Hill? Lunch​ ​is​ ​divided​ ​into​ ​four​ ​lunch​ ​periods.​ ​Students​ ​will​ ​attend​ ​the​ ​lunch​ ​period​ ​assigned to​ ​the​ ​class​ ​they​ ​are​ ​in​ ​during​ ​their​ ​third​ ​period​ ​classes.​ ​Students​ ​have​ ​approximately 30​ ​minutes​ ​for​ ​each​ ​lunch​ ​period​ ​and​ ​are​ ​expected​ ​to​ ​complete​ ​all​ ​meal​ ​activities during​ ​this​ ​period.​ ​In​ ​order​ ​to​ ​help​ ​keep​ ​our​ ​school​ ​as​ ​clean​ ​as​ ​possible,​ ​students​ ​are not​ ​allowed​ ​to​ ​bring​ ​food​ ​or​ ​drink​ ​out​ ​of​ ​the​ ​cafeteria​ ​into​ ​classrooms.​ ​ ​Students​ ​have​ ​a variety​ ​of​ ​options​ ​for​ ​meal​ ​choices​ ​during​ ​lunch,​ ​including​ ​a​ ​salad​ ​bar.​ ​ ​All​ ​classes​ ​of students​ ​eat​ ​lunch​ ​during​ ​each​ ​lunch​ ​period.​ ​ ​Senior​ ​students​ ​are​ ​allowed​ ​to​ ​exit​ ​their classes​ ​a​ ​few​ ​minutes​ ​earlier​ ​than​ ​underclassmen​ ​in​ ​order​ ​to​ ​allow​ ​them​ ​to​ ​get​ ​to​ ​lunch earlier.​ ​ ​This​ ​is​ ​a​ ​privilege​ ​granted​ ​to​ ​seniors​ ​each​ ​year.​ ​ ​All​ ​underclassmen​ ​are expected​ ​to​ ​honor​ ​this​ ​privilege.

Students​ ​are​ ​expected​ ​to​ ​bring​ ​their​ ​student​ ​ID​ ​badges​ ​to​ ​lunch​ ​and​ ​have​ ​on​ ​their person.​ ​ ​ID​ ​badges​ ​are​ ​used​ ​to​ ​scan​ ​for​ ​lunch​ ​purchases​ ​and​ ​definitely​ ​speed​ ​up​ ​the process​ ​for​ ​purchases.​ ​ ​Students​ ​not​ ​having​ ​ID​ ​badges​ ​will​ ​be​ ​asked​ ​to​ ​move​ ​to​ ​the​ ​rear of​ ​the​ ​line​ ​in​ ​order​ ​to​ ​expedite​ ​the​ ​lines.​ ​ ​Students​ ​are​ ​asked​ ​to​ ​come​ ​prepared​ ​for​ ​this process​ ​everyday.

★ Are​ ​we​ ​required​ ​to​ ​take​ ​physical​ ​education​ ​(PE)​ ​classes​ ​in​ ​high​ ​school? Yes,​ ​All​ ​students​ ​are​ ​required​ ​to​ ​take​ ​Health/Physical​ ​Education​ ​(PE)​ ​as​ ​a​ ​class​ ​in​ ​high school.​ ​ ​This​ ​is​ ​a​ ​graduation​ ​requirement.

★ Do​ ​we​ ​have​ ​to​ ​dress​ ​out​ ​for​ ​physical​ ​education​ ​(PE)​ ​classes? Yes,​ ​All​ ​students​ ​are​ ​required​ ​to​ ​dress​ ​out​ ​for​ ​PE​ ​classes.​ ​ ​Failure​ ​to​ ​follow expectations​ ​in​ ​PE​ ​will​ ​have​ ​a​ ​negative​ ​effect​ ​on​ ​the​ ​overall​ ​grade​ ​and/or​ ​receipt​ ​of credit​ ​for​ ​the​ ​course.​ ​ ​Students​ ​who​ ​demonstrate​ ​a​ ​pattern​ ​of​ ​not​ ​following​ ​expectations in​ ​PE​ ​will​ ​not​ ​be​ ​allowed​ ​to​ ​register​ ​for​ ​other​ ​elective​ ​PE​ ​courses​ ​that​ ​require instructor/administrative​ ​approval.

★ How​ ​do​ ​lockers​ ​work​ ​at​ ​Bunker​ ​Hill? Lockers​ ​are​ ​assigned​ ​to​ ​students​ ​for​ ​an​ ​entire​ ​year​ ​by​ ​homeroom.​ ​ ​Each​ ​student​ ​is required​ ​to​ ​keep​ ​his/her​ ​books​ ​in​ ​his/her​ ​own​ ​locker​ ​and​ ​all​ ​personal​ ​items.​ ​ ​We​ ​request that​ ​students​ ​keep​ ​their​ ​cell​ ​phones​ ​in​ ​lockers​ ​as​ ​well..​ ​Students​ ​may​ ​not​ ​use​ ​the lockers​ ​of​ ​other​ ​students​ ​or​ ​unassigned​ ​lockers​ ​to​ ​store​ ​items.​ ​ ​Students​ ​should​ ​not bring​ ​items​ ​of​ ​value​ ​to​ ​school.​ ​ ​All​ ​students​ ​are​ ​provided​ ​an​ ​official​ ​Bunker​ ​Hill​ ​High School​ ​combination​ ​lock​ ​that​ ​they​ ​are​ ​required​ ​to​ ​use​ ​on​ ​their​ ​assigned​ ​locker.

★ What​ ​is​ ​the​ ​policy​ ​on​ ​bookbags​ ​at​ ​Bunker​ ​Hill? Bookbags​ ​are​ ​not​ ​allowed​ ​in​ ​classrooms​ ​or​ ​the​ ​school​ ​cafeteria​ ​during​ ​lunch.​ ​Students are​ ​required​ ​to​ ​place​ ​such​ ​items​ ​in​ ​their​ ​lockers.​ ​ ​Students​ ​carrying​ ​purses​ ​are encouraged​ ​to​ ​leave​ ​such​ ​items​ ​in​ ​lockers.​ ​ ​ ​All​ ​students​ ​are​ ​provided​ ​an​ ​official Bunker​ ​Hill​ ​High​ ​School​ ​combination​ ​lock​ ​that​ ​they​ ​are​ ​required​ ​to​ ​use​ ​on​ ​their assigned​ ​locker.

★ When​ ​can​ ​I​ ​take​ ​a​ ​foreign​ ​language​ ​class? Students​ ​generally​ ​begin​ ​taking​ ​their​ ​foreign​ ​language​ ​classes​ ​during​ ​their​ ​sophomore year.​ ​ ​Students​ ​taking​ ​an​ ​online​ ​foreign​ ​language​ ​class​ ​during​ ​their​ ​middle​ ​school years,​ ​may​ ​continue​ ​to​ ​take​ ​an​ ​online​ ​foreign​ ​language​ ​class​ ​once​ ​entering​ ​the​ ​high school.​ ​ ​Freshmen​ ​students​ ​taking​ ​classes​ ​in​ ​the​ ​face-to-face​ ​setting​ ​are​ ​allowed​ ​to register​ ​for​ ​foreign​ ​language​ ​courses​ ​beginning​ ​their​ ​sophomore​ ​year.

★ What​ ​is​ ​the​ ​policy​ ​on​ ​cell​ ​phones​ ​at​ ​Bunker​ ​Hill?

Students​ ​should​ ​keep​ ​cell​ ​phones​ ​in​ ​lockers​ ​throughout​ ​the​ ​school​ ​day.​ ​ ​Bunker​ ​Hill High​ ​School​ ​provides​ ​all​ ​students​ ​with​ ​a​ ​school​ ​lock​ ​for​ ​security​ ​purposes.​ ​ ​In​ ​the event​ ​students​ ​choose​ ​to​ ​keep​ ​cell​ ​phones​ ​on​ ​their​ ​person​ ​when​ ​entering​ ​a​ ​classroom, students​ ​are​ ​required​ ​to​ ​place​ ​cell​ ​phones​ ​in​ ​the​ ​classroom​ ​pocket​ ​chart,​ ​holder,​ ​or cabinet​ ​in​ ​that​ ​particular​ ​learning​ ​environment​ ​for​ ​the​ ​duration​ ​of​ ​the​ ​instructional period.​ ​ ​If​ ​teachers​ ​allow​ ​the​ ​use​ ​of​ ​cell​ ​phones​ ​for​ ​instructional​ ​purposes,​ ​those classroom​ ​teachers​ ​will​ ​provide​ ​specific​ ​procedures​ ​and​ ​expectations​ ​around​ ​usage. The​ ​faculty​ ​and​ ​administration​ ​want​ ​to​ ​extend​ ​all​ ​courtesy​ ​and​ ​respect​ ​to​ ​students concerning​ ​electronic​ ​devices.​ ​ ​Moreover,​ ​as​ ​educators,​ ​we​ ​expect​ ​students​ ​to​ ​give​ ​full attention​ ​to​ ​the​ ​teacher​ ​and​ ​the​ ​teacher’s​ ​directives​ ​when​ ​electronic​ ​device​ ​use​ ​is​ ​not being​ ​permitted​ ​in​ ​the​ ​classroom.

★ When​ ​can​ ​students​ ​take​ ​honors​ ​level​ ​and​ ​Advanced​ ​Placement​ ​(AP)​ ​courses? Students​ ​may​ ​take​ ​honors​ ​level​ ​courses​ ​upon​ ​entering​ ​high​ ​school.​ ​ ​Advanced Placement​ ​(AP)​ ​courses​ ​may​ ​be​ ​taken​ ​as​ ​soon​ ​as​ ​students​ ​meet​ ​the​ ​prerequisites required​ ​for​ ​each​ ​course.​ ​ ​Certain​ ​honors​ ​courses​ ​serve​ ​as​ ​prerequisites​ ​for​ ​Advanced Placement​ ​Level​ ​Courses.​ ​Honors​ ​and​ ​AP​ ​courses​ ​often​ ​require​ ​more​ ​reading,​ ​more preparation,​ ​and​ ​more​ ​concentrated​ ​effort​ ​than​ ​College​ ​Preparation​ ​(CP)​ ​Courses. Honors​ ​and​ ​AP​ ​courses​ ​are​ ​not​ ​intended​ ​for​ ​students​ ​who​ ​merely​ ​want​ ​to​ ​enroll​ ​in​ ​a weighted​ ​course.​ ​They​ ​are​ ​designed​ ​for​ ​students​ ​who​ ​have​ ​a​ ​genuine​ ​interest​ ​in​ ​the subject​ ​and​ ​want​ ​to​ ​extend​ ​their​ ​learning​ ​to​ ​a​ ​higher​ ​level​ ​of​ ​understanding​ ​of​ ​the subject​ ​matter. Parents​ ​and​ ​students​ ​should​ ​understand​ ​the​ ​commitment​ ​to​ ​the​ ​preparation​ ​time required​ ​in​ ​honors​ ​and​ ​AP​ ​level​ ​courses.​ ​Students​ ​may​ ​still​ ​be​ ​involved​ ​in​ ​athletics, jobs,​ ​and​ ​extracurricular​ ​activities​ ​and​ ​do​ ​well​ ​if​ ​they​ ​learn​ ​to​ ​budget​ ​their​ ​time​ ​and keep​ ​up​ ​with​ ​assignments.

★ Where​ ​do​ ​freshmen​ ​students​ ​report​ ​on​ ​the​ ​first​ ​day​ ​of​ ​school? All​ ​freshmen​ ​students​ ​will​ ​report​ ​to​ ​their​ ​homeroom​ ​class​ ​on​ ​the​ ​first​ ​day​ ​of​ ​school.

★ Can​ ​students​ ​bring​ ​laptops​ ​or​ ​tablets​ ​to​ ​school? Students​ ​are​ ​allowed​ ​to​ ​bring​ ​and​ ​use​ ​devices​ ​in​ ​their​ ​classes​ ​for​ ​instructional​ ​purposes.

Violations​ ​of​ ​the​ ​Catawba​ ​County​ ​Schools​ ​Acceptable​ ​Use​ ​Policy​ ​may​ ​remove​ ​such opportunities.

★ Do​ ​I​ ​have​ ​to​ ​wear​ ​an​ ​ID​ ​Badge​ ​at​ ​school? Bunker​ ​Hill​ ​High​ ​School​ ​provides​ ​all​ ​students​ ​with​ ​a​ ​student​ ​ID​ ​badge.​ ​ ​Students​ ​are expected​ ​to​ ​wear​ ​their​ ​ID​ ​badge​ ​every​ ​day​ ​to​ ​school​ ​or​ ​have​ ​it​ ​on​ ​their​ ​person​ ​for access.​ ​ ​ ​ID​ ​badges​ ​should​ ​be​ ​worn​ ​around​ ​the​ ​student’s​ ​neck​ ​with​ ​a​ ​lanyard,​ ​so​ ​they are​ ​easily​ ​identified​ ​in​ ​any​ ​situation.​ ​ ​The​ ​purpose​ ​of​ ​this​ ​policy/procedure​ ​is​ ​to​ ​ensure the​ ​safety​ ​of​ ​all​ ​our​ ​students​ ​and​ ​to​ ​use​ ​ID​ ​badges​ ​for​ ​media​ ​checkouts​ ​and​ ​purchase​ ​of lunch.​ ​ ​Students​ ​who​ ​forget​ ​to​ ​wear​ ​ID​ ​badges​ ​or​ ​have​ ​on​ ​their​ ​person​ ​may​ ​be​ ​subject to​ ​disciplinary​ ​action,​ ​denied​ ​access​ ​to​ ​school​ ​related​ ​events,​ ​or​ ​delayed​ ​when purchasing​ ​items.​ ​ ​ ​If​ ​a​ ​student​ ​loses​ ​their​ ​ID​ ​badge,​ ​a​ ​$5.00​ ​replacement​ ​charge​ ​will​ ​be required​ ​to​ ​buy​ ​a​ ​new​ ​badge.

★ Can​ ​we​ ​wear​ ​earbuds​ ​or​ ​headphones​ ​at​ ​school? Earbuds​ ​and​ ​headphones​ ​are​ ​not​ ​allowed​ ​at​ ​Bunker​ ​Hill​ ​High​ ​School.​ ​ ​Students​ ​should not​ ​wear​ ​these​ ​in​ ​hallways​ ​or​ ​classrooms.​ ​ ​Such​ ​items​ ​will​ ​be​ ​asked​ ​to​ ​be​ ​surrendered to​ ​school​ ​personnel.​ ​Parents​ ​will​ ​be​ ​asked​ ​to​ ​come​ ​to​ ​school​ ​for​ ​the​ ​return​ ​of​ ​such items.​ ​ ​In​ ​the​ ​event​ ​students​ ​are​ ​asked​ ​to​ ​surrender​ ​any​ ​such​ ​items,​ ​ ​they​ ​should​ ​do​ ​so respectfully​ ​and​ ​appropriately.
