Generation Rap is a weekly radio show produced by teens from all across the metro area. Aired at 8 a.m. every Saturday since Dec. 12, 1987 on Hot 103 Jamz KPRS 103.3FM. The show was originally conceived by Carl Boyd, and Prim Carter Williams. Generation Rap has received several national awards, including a literacy award from the Missouri State Teachers Association. Generation Rap is a leadership program, sponsored by Carter Broadcast Group. About fifty area middle school and high school teenagers choose their own topics, produce the show, host the show, and discuss the topic live and openly on KPRS. However, each topic must be accompanied by a professional in the field or someone very knowledgeable about the subject matter.

Robyn Knight has been on Hot 103 Jamz for 13 years. She graduated with a BA from The University of Missouri-Columbia and holds a Master’s of Arts in Teaching from UCM. Knight was honored to coordinate the quarter of a million dollar Black Student Government Conference, 25th Anniversary, started at MU. Knight held the position of Broadcast Vice President for Kansas City Association of Black Journalists (KCABJ) for 10 years. She had the honor to coordinate the press room for the 101st NAACP National Convention held in Kansas City with First Lady Michelle Obama. She is certified and teaches college and high school courses in English, Media and Journalism. She was featured in an article on the NPR website. Knight has received many journalism state awards from the Missouri Interscholastic Press Association including the G-Rap Literacy award from the Missouri State Teachers Association.

An alumna of Generation Rap,

Erika Brice, first joined the show as a youth host in 1995 while under the leadership of Generation Rap founder Carl Boyd. She counts her time with Generation Rap and the Carter Broadcast family as one of the most positive and influential experiences in her life. In 2011 Erika returned to Generation Rap as a mentor to share the lessons given to her. Outside of Generation Rap Erika serves as the Manager of National Real Estate Programs for NeighborWorks America, one of the country’s preeminent leaders in affordable housing and community development. In addition, Erika has more than a decade of experience in commercial real estate: development, investment, consulting and asset management. Erika is a proud graduate of Howard University in Washington DC, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and serves on multiple boards within the Kansas City community.

India Williams is a proud Kansas City, Mo native. She began her political career as Jackson County Committeewoman of the 10th Ward, a year ago. As an elected official, she is responsible for voter registration, community forums, and election operations within my Ward. Her previous professional experience includes college advisement at the largest higher education institution in the country. In this role, she built relationships with students from all walks of life which she loved. She recently earned her Master Business Administration from the University of Phoenix-Kansas City and also has a Bachelor degree in Mass Communications from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska. Before moving back to Kansas City, MO, she was a television producer at KTKA ABC 49 News in Topeka, KS. She has experience in radio, television and print; in fact, she was a proud participate of the Kansas City Association for Black Journalists. She was also the face of KC Career Girl, which was a UMKC sponsored monthly television show. Although she appreciates the world of higher education, her true passion is youth development and mentors to the Urban Summit Young Professionals.

Jim ‘Grand Dad’ Nunnelly has logged over ten thousand volunteer hours, all on behalf of children, particularly teenagers. As a health care executive, Jim established the first public health adolescent clinic in the nation. He is best known as a youth advocate and for earning the unrelenting trust of teenagers, nationwide. Grand Dad is without question an authority on mentoring young adults and teenagers. He is an honor graduate of both the University of Missouri-Columbia and University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. He has consulted with the Kauffman, Robert Wood Johnson and over one hundred health care organizations, nationwide.
