Ensure schools have the necessary systems in place and resources available for the effective admission of EAL pupils. Delegates will be shown EAL resources available for admission and induction for the Primary phase. These will be evaluated and discussed. Each delegate will also be offered a FREE EAL follow up visit or school training by an EAL Adviser as part of the cost of the course to ensure impact and effective staff development. EAL - The Department of Education definition A pupil’s first language is defined as any language other than English that a child was exposed to during early development and continues to be exposed to in the home or community. If a child was exposed to more than one language (which may include English) during early development, a language other than English should be recorded, irrespective of the child’s proficiency in English.
