On the 2nd February, 92 BST students took part in the Intermediate Maths Challenge, a competition from the UK which is also entered by many schools worldwide. Each year there are around 200,000+ entries at each level, and the questions are designed to make students think more creatively about problem solving. As a result, there is no topic list or scheme of work, so questions can be asked on virtually anything within Maths. Awards are given out to the same percentage of participants each year, Gold to the top 6-7%, Silver to the next 13-14%, and Bronze to the next 20%, meaning that overall, 40% of participants win awards. This year we are delighted to announce that of our participants, 21 achieved Gold, 19 achieved Silver, and 20 achieved Bronze (in total, 65% of entries).
Congratulations to our winners (listed below) and to all students who took part, in particular those students who requested to take part in order to challenge themselves. I am confident that they have all benefitted mathematically from the experience!

Not only that though, the Intermediate Maths Challenge has several follow-up rounds which students who score particularly highly are invited to take part in. These rounds will take place on the 16th March. The following students have qualified for the Grey (Y9) and Pink (Y10-11) Kangaroo rounds (they would have been in around the top 8000 students in their year groups worldwide).

Last, but definitely not least, the top 500 students in each year group worldwide are invited to take part in the Mathematical Olympiad papers. These are named Cayley, Hamilton, and Maclaurin, for Years 9, 10 and 11 respectively. The following students have qualified for these rounds due to their exceptionally high scores for their age groups.
