Amazing Authors – KS1 Areas of learning As Geographers we will be looking at the human and physical features in the stories. We will be creating maps to represent the story settings. We will be beginning to use grid references and keys with our maps. We will also be learning about co-ordinates. Make notes about the features that give places their character. As Scientists we will be identifying and comparing the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood metal, plastic glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses. We will be finding out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

As Historians we will find out about the life of two significant authors (Roald Dahl and Julia Donaldson). We will be placing books in the order they were published on a time line. We will create our own autobiography of our lives. As Artists we will be focusing on the work of Quentin Blake and Alex Scheffler. We will be describing the characteristics of these illustrators work. We will be learning how to draw in the style of these famous illustrators.
Immersion Activities Wow: Year 1 - Watching The Gruffalo and making Gruffalo biscuits. Making Gruffalo masks. Year 2 – will be watching Charlie and the chocolate factory, creating their own rocky road. Finale: Come dressed up as your favourite book character.
