Maps domain names to IP addresses. 11. What is a Network Address Translation (NAT)? It translates a public IP address to a private IP address. An octet is made up of 8 bits. Every IP address has 4 octets. 13. What is the purpose of a subnet mask? It’s a way to segment a network logically when on the same physical network, the subnet mask is what tells you what part of the IP address is for the network, and what part of the address is for. 14.
