ENGINEERING AND PHYSICAL SCIENCES RESEARCH COUNCIL
MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES FELLOWSHIPS
Postdoctoral Fellowships Postdoctoral Fellowships are awarded to enable talented new researchers to establish an independent research career directly or shortly after completing their PhD. They are for a period of up to three years and cover the salary cost of the fellow and a small amount of travel and subsistence or equipment. EPSRC is offering Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in theoretical physics, mathematical sciences and cross-disciplinary interfaces to enable the most talented new researchers to establish an independent research career shortly after completing a PhD. The Mathematical Sciences Programme encompasses all areas of novel mathematics (pure and applied), probability and statistics, operational research as well as some areas of mathematical physics. Candidates should check the EPSRC website for clarification of programme remits, and contact EPSRC if they have doubts about the remit of their proposed research. Up to ten fellowships are awarded per year to candidates who can demonstrate excellence and originality in research within the remit of mathematical sciences. Eligibility There are no nationality or age restrictions on who may apply for a fellowship. Potential candidates should have up to but no more than three years postdoctoral research experience by the start date of the
fellowship. This period is calculated from the date of the PhD viva to the proposed start date of the fellowship. You should not currently hold, or have previously held, a permanent academic post in either the UK or overseas. Location Fellowships can be held only at any UK university or similar Higher Education Institution (HEI) that is eligible for research council funding. Host organisation The host organisation should confirm the willingness of the department to host the fellow, should an award be made. You are strongly advised to discuss your application with your proposed host research organisation as soon as possible, as you will not be able to submit it without their help. Call is expected to open in June and will close in late August. For more information regarding EPSRC postdoctoral fellowships check our website: www.epsrc.ac.uk/funding/fellows/Pages/postdoctoral.aspx
Career Acceleration Fellowships
The application and assessment process for the Career Acceleration Fellowship scheme is separated into two stages:
Career Acceleration Fellowships provide support for outstanding researchers at an early stage of their career. Up to five years funding is available and there is an annual call for proposals. Career Acceleration Fellowships are offered across the whole of the EPSRC remit.
• the submission and assessment of outline proposals to form a shortlist of applicants who will be invited to submit full proposals;
Eligibility Potential career acceleration fellows are expected to have a strong publication record (for their particular research area) and to be able to demonstrate independence from their current/previous supervisors.
Location Fellowships can be held only at any UK university or similar Higher Education Institution (HEI) that is eligible for research council funding.
Career Acceleration Fellowships are intended for early stage researchers, with a substantial academic career ahead of them, who do not have a permanent academic position. There are no nationality restrictions for this scheme.
Host organisation The host organisation should confirm the willingness of the department to host the fellow, should an award be made. You are strongly advised to discuss your application with your proposed host research organisation as soon as possible, as you will not be able to submit it without their help.
Candidates should be within ten years of completing their PhD with a minimum of three years postdoctoral/industrial research experience. This period is calculated from your PhD viva date to 1 October of the year of application. (Industrial research experience is considered to be equivalent to postdoctoral research experience.)
• then the submission and assessment of full proposals.
Call is expected to open in June and will close in late August. For more information regarding EPSRC Career Acceleration Fellowships check our website: www.epsrc.ac.uk/funding/fellows/careeracc/Pages/default.aspx
