End Of Year Field Trips and What to Expect

By: Sam Burton Spring is here! And with it, a dessert that will get you in the spirit of spring. So tell the kids they’re having dirt for dinner with this fun Cup of Dirt Recipe. The whole family will enjoy making and eating this tasty dessert. This is how to make it…. The ingredients you will need for this recipe are: ● 1 package chocolate pudding mix ● 2 cups chilled milk ● 1 (8 oz) tub of whipped cream ● About 16 Oreos (Finely Crushed) ● Gummy Worms (However many you like) How to put it together: 1. Make the pudding in a medium sized bowl by whisking milk and chocolate pudding mix together. 2. Stir in whipped cream and ½ cup of crushed oreos. 3. Spoon pudding mixture into 9 cups evenly and top with the rest of the crushed Oreos. 4. Decorate cups with Gummy worms and refrigerate for about an hour.

Classic Fun Center​: 7th graders will have access to roller skates. If they would like, they can bring their own roller skates, roller blades, or scooters from home, but skateboards are prohibited. There are fun things to do like gravity courses, lazer tag, and arcade games. If students checked the box on the permission slips to bring home lunch, there will not be a school lunch provided for them. If students would like to bring their own money, they can buy extra food that Mount Ogden Jr. High will not be paying for.

Walker Cinema Movie Theater​: The movie that the 8th grade students is going to see is Avengers. Students will need to bring money if they would like to purchase any treats to eat during the movie. There is popcorn, nachos, drinks, and other delicious treats. After the movie, the 8th grade students will go to Mount Ogden Park to eat lunch. They will need to bring a home lunch if they don’t want to eat school lunch.

beginner and don’t have much experience with crafts, don’t worry, these are simple crafts for beginners that anyone can make in very little time if you are in a rush.

Craft #1 Want a gift that will last forever? Construction paper flowers are the way to go! Your mom never has to think about watering the plant or giving it sunlight. When she looks at it she will just think of you instead of getting stressed out about how much care she needs to give it. The steps to create this craft are listed below. Step 1​: Head over to your local craft store to pick up pastel paints, construction paper, and a pencil/black sharpie. If you live in Ogden, you can go over to Bennion Crafts. Step 2​: Print off a flower stencil online that you think your mom would enjoy. Step 3​: Use the stencil and put it on top of the construction paper, then cut out your flowers. Step 4​: After you have cut out your flowers, use the paint you purchased and paint your flowers however you’d like. The end product should turn out somewhat like this:

As you can see in the picture above this guy's outfit is not as bad as James’ day 3 look, so thankfully it’s possible to show this disaster of an outfit. A bunch of clashing colors sure aren’t the way to go, and that hairstyle and dye doesn’t help make it any better, and lets not even begin to talk about the shoes that don’t go with this trainwreck. All in all, its still bad. But hey, at least he doesn’t have it as bad as James Charles, and that sure is something to feel good about.

The Performances Now there was a really good lineup for this year’s Coachella. Some artists deserve to be there, and deserve to get the attention they need. But unfortunately, that was cut short because of a surprise performance from a certain little boy who doesn’t deserve the attention he got. Craft #2 These homemade painted plates are sure to make your mother smile every time she eats a meal off of them. This gift is something that she will never want to get rid of it is so sentimental and sweet. This is a project that you can really make your own and have a lot of fun with. Step 1​: You will need to buy plates, paints , and paintbrushes of your choice. (make sure that you use non toxic paint if you want to eat off of them later) Step 2​: Find some inspiration online for creative designs and pictures that you think that your mom would enjoy. Step 3​: Once you’ve found what you want to paint on your plates you can start to paint the plates however you’d like. Once you’re done the end product should look somewhat like what is pictured below. But not everyone’s craft will look the same because these crafts should be unique to you and the person you are making this craft for. Continued on page 3

The arcade games reward you with tickets that you can redeem at the Boondocks Prize Center for treats, games, stuffed animals, and other prizes. Mount Ogden Jr. High will provide school lunches for students who are not bringing home lunch. Students can also bring money for anything extra they would like to purchase.

Students, please remember to be respectful on the end of year field trips, and most importantly, remember to have fun! That was this year’s Coachella run down! Hopefully you had fun looking at the highs and lows of this year’s FLOPchella ______________________________________

so many seats may be taken already. ● Sam Smith is going on tour for his album titled, “The Thrill of it All.” This tour will showcase one of his biggest hits, “Too Good at Goodbyes.” Sadly, all of the seats in front of him are taken. However, if you are still keen on going, there are still tickets for seats behind him. ● Finally, Owl City is going on a Cinematic Tour. You may remember their hit song “Fireflies” from 2010. Yes, this is the same guy. He is coming to Utah on October 9 to perform with guest star Matthew Thiessen and The Earthquakes. Hope you enjoy the playlist, as well as the concert. Hopefully this helped you with your music-devoid life by giving you a bit of variety. Even if you don’t like these genres of music, give them a listen! __________________________________

May Dahlias are one of the best parts of springtime! Growing Dahlias is complicated, but can be made simple. Dahlias are very beautiful when grown in a pot, so that is what we are going to do today. Before we begin, just know that this process requires hard work and lots of patience. But don't worry, if you follow these steps, it will all be worth it in the end. Step 1​: Purchase a fairly large pot that is about 12 inches deep and 11 inches wide. Along with the pot, you need to buy potting soil and dahlia bulbs that can be purchased at any Home Depot. Step 2​: Fill the pot with the soil about a third of the the way up and place the the Dahlia bulbs in the soft moist soil. If there is an eye or sprout in your dahlia bulb, make sure that it is facing upwards or the flower will sprout towards the bottom of the pot. Step 3​: Place your Dahlias outside in the warm weather. Make sure that you put them in a place where they receive sunlight daily. Step 4​: Give the Dahlias water. The dahlias do not need water until they appear out of the soil. If you water the Dahlias before they appear out of the soil, they will begin to rot. But when they do appear water them for about 2 to 3 times a week with a sprinkler for about 30 minutes. Step 5​: Care for your Dahlias. You need to give them support, you can do this by placing a strong pole into the soil. Then tie or wire your Dahlia’s stem to the pole. This process needs to occur when your Dahlia’s stem is about 10 inches tall and has at least 4 sets of leaves. Dahlias are the perfect flower to enjoy in the warm spring and summertime weather, so enjoy!!
