JROTC Syllabus Leadership Education Training and Studies Orange County High School, Virginia School Year 2015-2016 1. Introduction. Welcome to JROTC, Leadership Education Training and Studies. This syllabus explains the course overview, objectives and requirements, evaluation standards, provides participant expectations, and lists instructor point of contact information. 2. Course Overview. This course develops both individual knowledge and self confidence, while students apply personal and learned leadership skills. Using team dynamics, Cadets explore creative and innovative leadership strategies and styles. Cadets learn through challenging activities that develop problem solving and critical thinking skills using communication dynamics, instructor and peer feedback, and conflict resolution techniques. 3. Objectives and Requirements. Each Cadet must demonstrate mastery of the competencies illustrated below from Cadet Command Leadership Education Training (LET) Level I-IV Standards, and earn the Workplace Readiness Certification defined by the Virginia Department of Education Career and Technology Education guidelines. 4. Evaluation Standards. A. Grading standards comply with OCHS standards, and OCPS policy guidance. B. Your Semester Final Grade is weighted according to the following scale: Summative: 60%

5. Participant Expectations. A. This course is interactive, requiring each Cadet to complete all assignments and participate in the discussions and small group activities. B. Attendance. You must be here to earn a grade and more importantly grow as an individual and team member. According to Cadet Command Regulation 145-2, Para 3-23, any Cadet missing more than ten school days must be withdrawn from the course pending a Teacher/Parent/Student conference, and School principal acknowledgement. C. Participation in physical training, drill and ceremonies, and wearing the required uniform properly is not optional. Students must dress out even with a doctor's note. Uniform standards reinforce planning and responsibility learning objectives. Students with excused or unexcused absences during uniform inspection day (typically Tuesday) will be inspected the day of return to school. D. Fees. Payable to OCHS JROTC no later than the end of week two of the semester. Lab $20.00 – All Cadets returning and new each semester. PT Uniform - $10.00 MRB Tee Shirt & $10.00 OCHS PT Shorts ($10 each replacement) Fees are non-refundable. Each Cadet is required to sign for their Class A Dress uniform, the Camouflaged ACU uniform, and textbooks (average value is $545.00). Cadets must return their assigned items and clear their hand receipt at the end of the school year. Note. Any Cadet staying after school MUST have parent/guardian, and JROTC instructor permission, and is required to ride the Activity Bus or be picked up by a legal guardian.
