From School Library Journal Gr 7-10-This installment picks up where Sapphire Blue (Holt, 2012) left off. Sixteen-year-old Gwyneth Shepherd is nursing a broken heart after believing that Gideon de Villiers, her handsome time-traveling companion, has been manipulating her feelings for his own gain. To complicate matters, the Guardians who oversee her travel insist that she attend an 18th-century ball to meet with the Circle of Twelve's untrustworthy founder, Count Saint-Germain. The Count is depending on Gwyneth and Gideon to collect blood samples from the remaining Circle members to be entered into the chronograph (the time-traveling device). But what happens when the Circle is closed? Gwyneth is determined to unmask the Count's sinister plot while trying to hide her rogue time traveling from the Guardians, who might have a traitor in their midst. With the help of her grandpa, Gwyneth uncovers a hidden chronograph, secrets about her birth, and a shocking revelation about her own mortality while attending high-school parties and saving an endearing ghost from his smallpox fate. This would be quite overwhelming for any London teen, but Gwyneth handles her struggles with pluck, ingenuity, and good humor. There's so much to like in this trilogy: dry wit, enchanting first love, snarky gargoyles, a treacherous villain, mind-bending time travel, and quirky family members, who make it all worthwhile. This thrilling, yet bittersweet conclusion will leave readers feeling satisfied with the romance, but sad that the story is over.-Kimberly Garnick Giarratano, Rockaway Township Public Library, NJα(c) Copyright 2013. From Booklist The conclusion to the Ruby Red series has as many twists as the two previous books in the trilogy. Gwen has endured danger and flirted with romance throughout the two weeks (!) since she learned she’s the final member of the time-traveling Circle of Twelve. Now, the questions aren’t resolved until the final few pages as she tries to counteract the plans of the dastardly Count Saint-Germain. The best-selling series has been blessed with a clever heroine, a hysterical gargoyle, and a guy as good looking as he is enigmatic. With loooong lives ahead of them, perhaps this not the end after all. Grades 8-12. --Ilene Cooper Review

Although I would have to say this was my least favorite of the books in the series mainly because of the way it ended, I expected so much more for the ending when I was done with it I was like "umm that was it?" it was just too easy of an ending if that makes any sense the ending kind of killed it for me. One thing I've loved about this series which continued on with this book was the time travel aspect of it, it was once again done so well and detailed I always felt like I was there back in time with Gwen and Gideon. Also I like that the book had a good balance on the romance with the actual plot. With the way Sapphire Blue ended I was kind of dreading that the author might focus too much on Gwen and Gideon and not the actual plot but that wasn't the case thank goodness. Although I did at times find myself annoyed with Gwen when it came to Gideon, this whole series spans two weeks and the way she was hung up on him sometimes did irk me but luckily she did get it together and focused on what was important.
I found Emerald Green to move a little slower for me then the previous books but luckily all the great characters that are in the book helped me from getting bored at times. Xemerius is back better then ever giving plenty of moments that will have you laughing up a storm, then we get to know Gwen's grandfather a little better, Lucas, which was interesting. Also I still love Gwen she is very easy to connect with. And then you have all the characters you love to hate such as her cousin and aunt they are still there devious as ever. By the end of the book I would have to say there were a few questions that were still left unanswered mainly to do with the time traveling but overall I liked the series it's just this last book and that lackluster ending this series deserved so much more of an ending then something so convenient. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. ADORE this series! By Candace Robinson Oh how I love this series! I absolutely adore so much about it I don't even know where to start! I'll start with Gwen I suppose. She's such a fun character. She feels like an authentic teen in modern London. She has spunk and class. She isn't a rebel, but isn't necessarily a rule follower either. She's realized a lot about herself and the Circle in her weeks as a time traveler and fortunately she's finally piecing things together in this book. Her friend Lesley is a great load of fun as is her wonderful family with her lovely mother, her adorable siblings and her quirky aunt Maddy. Of course then she has the awful side of her family with her aunt Glenda and cousin Charlotte, but Gwen is a force, she can handle them! I can't not mention her wonderful gargoyle ghost who lends even more humor to this wonderful tale. He's always there with witty and hilarious remarks, but the love he shows Gwen is absolutely lovely. Love him! Talking about the romance is rather spoilery for the previous books, so I'll settle on saying this- I loved it! I felt completely satisfied, and ever so happy, with how things wrapped up with that aspect. I love time travel books but they can be rather confusing. This series feels less confusing, of course I've had three books to get use to it, but I feel like I can wrap my head around it all. It makes more sense to me I suppose. Plus they aren't traveling about willy nilly, there's very much a point to it all and they have goals each time. I like the way the author took the time traveling theme in the end, it's twisty and I never expected things the way they ended up. I'll just say, there are some surprises and I certainly never saw them coming! Overall I'm very happy with this conclusion. Except the fact that I WANT MORE! Absolutely lovely series that I look forward to revisiting in the future. Oh yes, this is one of those rare finds, books I will actually reread! Highly recommend! 13 of 15 people found the following review helpful. Loose Ends! By 3D I really enjoyed this series and was excited for the concluding book, but Gier left some annoying loose ends dangling! I liked the ending (no major spoilers ahead) and was very satisfied with the outcomes for Gwen, et. al. But what is the point of her seeing ghosts? Gier never explains the significance of the "magic of the raven," yet has built up Gwen's ability over the preceding books. Also, while Xemerius played an excellent Basil Exposition, I thought he might be more important to the mystery of the Circle of Twelve than as actually happened. Lucy and Paul's actions are another area where I think Gier could have spent more time. Overall, these loose ends made this book,
though the longest of the trilogy, feel rushed. That said, Emerald Greed was definitely still enjoyable enough to keep me up too late reading. See all 215 customer reviews...
