Background
The African Development Bank has funded through its African Development Fund a Multinational CGIAR project to support agricultural research for development of strategic crops in Africa (SARD-SC). ICARDA is implementing the subproject on wheat commodity which has been executed in 12 low-income African countries. ICARDA wishes to employ a qualified communication officer who will communicate to external audiences through a range of media the on-going successes and impacts of the SARD-SC Wheat project to the wider stakeholders across sub-Saharan Africa. The successful candidate will report to the SARD-SC Wheat Commodity Specialist. Position: Communication Officer (1-year renewable contract)
Location: SARD-SC wheat project target countries Job Grade: SMP3 (Regionally Recruited Position) Duties: Successful candidate will among other assignments: Acting as web editor, with weekly updates placed on the SARD-SC Wheat website in the form of stories, case studies, announcements etc. Managing media relations, sending regular updates to national, regional, and international media. Overseeing the design, layout, production and distribution of various information products – including brochures, factsheets, posters etc. Collecting and categorizing reports and other research materials, and making these outputs available on an ‘open access’ information repository Communicating the SARD-SC Wheat’s progress via regular e-newsletters and social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn

Education, qualifications and experience University degree in Communication, Marketing, Journalism, Agricultural Sciences, or a related subject. Over eight years-experience in marketing, communication, or journalism. Experience developing and implementing an integrated communication plan, preferably in the field of agricultural research for development. Thorough knowledge of all major Microsoft office applications. Basic managerial competence and experience managing external suppliers.
