Background
Gisborne Montessori School loses students to schools who offer preferred placements at year 5 or 6 for their secondary programs. We have many disappointed parents who complete cycle 3, but have no Montessori aligned secondary option. We miss enrolments from parents worried about the transition of students to mainstream year 7

Background
An average of 10 students in each year level is needed for a VRQA registered secondary program. Plenty Valley Montessori access a Montessori Stream in Templestowe Secondary School, Melbourne Montessori is to begin urban model cycle 4 in 2015 and Beechworth Montessori will begin accessing a Montessori Stream at Beechworth Secondary in 2015.

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) is a non-profit educational foundation, motivated by its mission, focused on the student. There are four programmes (Primary, Middle years, Diploma and Career related) for students aged 3 to 19 help develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. Founded in 1968, IB currently work with 3,946 schools in 147 countries to develop and offer four challenging programmes to over 1,235,000 students aged 3 to 19 years.

How will it work at GMS? Maximum
of 20 students per year level. Estimated maximum school size of 80 students when operating as a year 7 to 10. (or 100 if a year 7 – 12). Multi-age classrooms and activities when appropriate. Generalist IB trained teachers to teach majority of academic requirements Specialist teachers as needed, for example, art, P.E., etc.

current Yoga Room for 2016 and current Music room from 2017 &/or 18. When enrolments are forecasted to exceed 40, new buildings such as a portable or Pod 4 will be required.

The second school entry point will be developed to give the secondary campus its own identity and separation from the primary school. Landscaping on the North East side will give the students their own outdoor space separate from the Primary School.
Cost? At
this stage, we estimate tuition fees will be approx. $8000 per annum, with over 25% of this fee dedicated to the community and personal development programs. Estimated two scholarships per year for financial need and/or academic merit.
